Happy New Year! to everyone and Welcome to the first installment of What’s On? for 2023.
Following a short break for the holidays, the TV season ramps up again with the premiere of new content and returning favourites. On the network front, the next 2 weeks see the premiere of 3 new series, the return of All American, Fantasy Island, Pretty Hard Cases, Run the Burbs, Son of a Critch, Still Standing & Workin’ Moms as well as the winter premiere of many network series as they return from their holiday hiatus. New series premiering in the next two weeks include ABC’s new crime drama Will Trent, FOX’s new drama Alert: Missing Persons Unit and European adventure drama Around the World in 80 Days (airing on CBC Television). On the reality front, 2 new series premiere- competition series America’s Got Talent: All Stars and game show Lingo. Also, Tough as Nails returns with all-new season. In addition, the 2022 Golden Globe Awards air January 10.
On the specialty and streaming front, the next two weeks see the premiere of 10 new series, the return of BMF, Catastrophe, Ginny & Georgia, Hunters, Letterkenny, Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler, Servant, Star Wars: The Bad Batch & Vikings: Valhalla and the series finale of George & Tammy. New series premiering in the next two weeks include Amazon Prime Video’s new supernatural thriller The Rig, AMC+’s new fantasy horror series Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, HBO Max’s new adult animated mystery comedy Velma (airing on Crave), 4 new Netflix series: Danish thriller Copenhagen Cowboy, crime drama Kaleidoscope, mystery drama Woman of the Dead & drama Without Sin, Peacock’s new crime drama Irreverent & docu-drama Paul T. Goldman and Colin From Accounts, an Australian comedy series airing on Crave. In addition, Echo 3, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, The Mosquito Coast, The Pact and Willow conclude their current season.
Other highlights include the premiere of three new docuseries: Sometimes When we Touch, a 3-part documentary on the history of soft rock music (Paramount+), Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street, a 4-Part documentary that follows the rise and fall of financier Bernie Madoff and Super League: The War for Football, a 4-Part sports documentary that examines the high stakes battle that took place when several high profile European soccer clubs tried to form their own breakaway league (Apple TV+).
On the reality front, new Netflix competition series Pressure Cooker premieres as well as 2 new Food Network competition series- Chef Dynasty: House of Fang and NFL Tailgate Takedown. Also, three new HGTV series premiere: Christina in the Country, Beach Hunters and Rico to the Rescue.
