MUST-WATCH TITLES FOR SEPTEMBER

SEPTEMBER 3 – PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN *Movie Premiere*

  • The Academy Award® winning film PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, starring Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby) and Bo Burnham (Eighth Grade), begins streaming Friday, September 3. Suspiciously unambitious Cassie (Mulligan) leads a quiet existence as a barista who lives in her parents’ house since dropping out of medical school. The way she spends her evenings, however, reveals a boiling vendetta. Men who cross her path are in danger, as beautiful and brutal Cassie seeks to heal from past trauma by doling out harsh lessons.  Additional cast includes Laverne Cox (Can You Keep a Secret), Alison Brie (CINEMA TOAST), Jennifer Coolidge (THE WHITE LOTUS), Clancy Brown (CARNIVALE), Adam Brody (The OC), Connie Britton (THE WHITE LOTUS), Chistopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad), Chris Lowell (VERONICA MARS), and Max Greenfield (New Girl).

SEPTEMBER 3 – SHOWTIME’s BITCHIN’: THE SOUND AND FURY OF RICK JAMES *Documentary Premiere*

  • Streaming Friday, September 3 at 9 p.m. ET and chronicling one of rock, funk, and R&B’s most legendary and controversial figures is SHOWTIME’s BITCHIN’: THE SOUND AND FURY OF RICK JAMES. Directed by Emmy®-nominee Sacha Jenkins (WU-TANG CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN), the documentary is a raw and intimate look at the “Super Freak” singer, charting his soaring artistic success and eventual personal decline. Blazing new trails in American music and global culture in the ’70s and ’80s as a songwriter, performer, and producer, James collaborated with Canadian luminaries such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, who he would later collaborate with on the R&B band The Mynah Birds. Featuring rare footage of James’ incredible live shows, never-before-seen home videos, original interviews with legendary artists, collaborators and friends, and a treasure trove of recorded interviews with James (who died in 2004), the documentary presents a full picture of James’ dramatic rise and fall, focusing in on the “Punk-Funk” music he left behind.

SEPTEMBER 5 – SHOWTIME’s BILLIONS *Mid-Season Premiere*

  • SHOWTIME’s hit drama series BILLIONS continues its fifth season, beginning Sunday, September 5 at 9 p.m. ET. Starring Emmy® winners Paul Giamatti (JOHN ADAMS) and Damian Lewis (BAND OF BROTHERS), the second half of Season 5 sees the presence of powerful billionaire Mike Prince (Corey Stoll, House of Cards) send ripples through Axe Capital and gives Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti) a potential new weapon in his fight against Bobby Axelrod (Lewis). Alliances form, get ripped apart and form anew, and everyone from Taylor (Asia Kate Dillion, Orange is the New Black) to Wendy (Maggie Siff, Sons of Anarchy) gets roped into the conflict, which comes very close to destroying all they hold dear. The series also stars David Constabile (Suits), Condola Rashad (Come Monday), Kelly AuCoin (The Americans), and Jeffrey DeMunn (The Walking Dead). SEPTEMBER 6 – CANADA’S DRAG RACE ANNIVERSARY EXTRAVAGANZA *Canadian Special*

  • Hosted by Priyanka, Canada’s first drag superstar and winner of CANADA’S DRAG RACE Season 1, CANADA’S DRAG RACE ANNIVERSARY EXTRAVAGANZA airs Monday, September 6 at 9 p.m. ET. In anticipation of the second season of Crave’s five-time, Canadian Screen Award-Winning smash-hit original series CANADA’S DRAG RACE, the all new, 90-minute special looks back at the series’ history making first season. All 12 Queens from Season 1 reunite to discuss their most memorable experiences on the show. In addition, Priyanka sits down with Season 2 judges Amanda Brugel, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Brad Goreski, and Traci Melchor, as they spill the tea on what they’re looking for from the new competitors, and give viewers the opportunity to learn more about what they bring to the judges table.

SEPTEMBER 12 – HBO’s SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE *Limited Series Premiere*

  • From Hagai Levi (IN TREATMENT) and starring Oscar Isaac (SHOW ME A HERO) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), HBO’s SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE premieres on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. The five-episode limited series explores love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple. Mira (Chastain) is a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled by her marriage, and Jonathan (Isaac) is a cerebral and accommodating philosophy professor desperate to keep their relationship intact. The series observes the full complexity of Jonathan and Mira as individuals who ultimately know their marriage isn’t being torn apart by any one event or flaw, resulting in a radically honest series that allows the audience to eavesdrop on private conversations between two people torn between feelings of hate and love. SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes streaming Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. In addition, Ingmar Bergman’s original drops September 10 on Crave.

SEPTEMBER 12 – SHOWTIME’s AMERICAN RUST *Series Premiere*

  • SHOWTIME’s new drama series AMERICAN RUST premieres Sunday, September 12 at 10 p.m. ET. Starring Emmy Award® winner Jeff Daniels (THE COMEY RULE, THE NEWSROOM) and Emmy Award nominee Maura Tierney (THE AFFAIR, YOUR HONOR), AMERICAN RUST tells the story of survival and transcendence through the eyes of complicated and compromised Del Harris (Daniels), Chief of Police of a Pennsylvania Rust Belt town, full of good people making bad choices. When news of a murder rips through the town, Harris must decide what lengths he is willing to take to protect the son of the woman he loves (Tierney). AMERICAN RUST also stars Bill Camp (THE OUTSIDER), David Alvarez (West Side Story), Alex Neustaedter (Colony), Julia Mayorga (It Is Decidedly So), Mark Pellegrino (Supernatural), and Rob Yang (The Resident). SEPTEMBER 16 – DARK SIDE OF THE RING *Mid-Season Premiere*

  • The much-anticipated second half of the Crave Original docuseries DARK SIDE OF THE RING premieres Thursday, September 16 at 9 p.m. ET with all-new episodes. Recently becoming Vice TV’s most-watched show of all time, DARK SIDE OF THE RING continues to entertain wrestling fans and newcomers to the sport with the biggest stories from the last 40 years, giving viewers unprecedented access to wrestling insiders, and revealing the brutal truths and often tragic consequences of lives in the squared circle. With professional wrestler Chris Jericho as the narrator, the second half of Season 3 continues to give viewers more of the rich storytelling that defined the first two seasons, with stories about legendary wrestlers Johnny K9 aka Bruiser Bedlam, Luna Vachon, and Chris Kanyon, and the history of the plane ride from hell, Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW), and the steroid trials. SEPTEMBER 26 – STARZ’s BMF *Series Premiere*

  • From the producers of the POWER franchise, the new STARZ drama series BMF begins streaming Sunday, September 26. The series is inspired by the true story of the Flenory brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980’s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in the United States. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory’s (played by his son, Demetirus “Lil Meech” Flenory) charismatic leadership, Terry “Southwest T” Flenory’s (Da’Vinchi, Grown-ish) business acumen, and the fraternal partnership’s vision beyond the drug trade and into the world of Hip Hop, renders the brothers iconic on a global level. Their unwavering belief in family loyalty is the cornerstone of their partnership and the crux of their eventual estrangement. BMF is a story about love, kinship, and capitalism in the pursuit of the American dream. The cast also includes Ajiona Alexus (13 Reasons Why), Arkeisha “Kash Doll” Knight (2Eleven), La La Anthony (POWER), Michole Briana White, Miles Truitt (Kin), Russel Hornsby (The Hate U Give), Snoop Dogg (Starsky and Hutch), and Serayah McNeill (Empire). SEPTEMBER 3 – WELLINGTON PARANORMAL *Season 1-3*

  • All three seasons of the New Zealand mockumentary series WELLINGTON PARANORMAL drop on Friday, September 3. Created and produced by Jemaine Clement (FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS) and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) as a spinoff of their critically-acclaimed cult film What We Do in the Shadows, WELLINGTON PARANORMAL follows the adventures of Officers O’Leary (Karen O’Leary, What We Do in the Shadows) and Minogue (Mike Minogue, What We Do in the Shadows), hard-working members of the Wellington constabulary’s paranormal unit. Under the supervision of Sergeant Maaka (Maaka Pohatu, Savage), the officers investigate supernatural occurrences that arise in the capital of New Zealand on a surprisingly regular basis.

SEPTEMBER 4 – THE VIRTUOSO *Movie Premiere*

  • Fresh off his win for Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards, Anthony Hopkins stars as the enigmatic mentor opposite Anson Mount (Hell On Wheels) in THE VIRTUOSO, streaming Saturday, September 4 on STARZ. In this noir-style thriller, danger, deception, and murder descend upon a sleepy country town when a professional assassin (Mount) accepts a new assignment from his boss (Hopkins). Given only where and when, along with a cryptic clue, the methodical hitman must identify his mysterious mark from among several possible targets, including a local sheriff (David Morse, THE GOOD LORD BIRD). Meanwhile, a chance encounter with an alluring woman (Abbie Cornish, Seven Psychopaths) threatens to derail his mission.

SEPTEMBER 13 – SHOWTIME’s BACK TO LIFE *Season 2 Premiere*

  • The six-part second season of the critically acclaimed series BACK TO LIFE premieres Monday, September 13 at 10 p.m. ET. Season 2 picks up six weeks after an optimistic Miri (Daisy Haggard, EPISODES) leaves prison. Her probation officer, Janice (Jo Martin, Doctor Who), has gotten her a trial shift at the supermarket. Miri and her neighbour Billy (Adeel Akhtar, Utopia) have been spending more time together, and she’s even found her hair crimper. However, Miri’s not talking to her mother Caroline (Geraldine James, Downton Abbey) after the revelation that she was having an affair with Miri’s ex-boyfriend Dom (Jamie Michie, Borderline), and she’ll need a lot of shifts at the supermarket before she can afford to move out. She’s also avoiding her best friend Mandy (Christine Bottomley, DOMINIA) after learning that Mandy’s secret affair with Lara’s father led to Lara’s death all those years ago. Things are about to get a whole lot worse with the arrival of Lara’s mother, Norah, who is still grieving her daughter. It is clear that Miri cannot escape her past. SHOWTIME’s BACK TO LIFE follows a weekly release schedule with episodes dropping Mondays at 10 p.m. ET.

SEPTEMBER 23 – DOOM PATROL *Season 3 Premiere*

  • Season 3 of DOOM PATROL premieres Thursday, September 23 at 9:30 p.m. ET on Crave and airs at 10 p.m. ET on CTV Sci-Fi Channel. Praised by Vulture for “breathing new life into superhero TV,” DOOM PATROL reimagines one of DC Comics’ most beloved groups of superheroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser, NO SUDDEN MOVE), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer, THE NORMAL HEART), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby, Drop Dead Diva), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero, Orange is the New Black), and Cyborg aka Victor Stone (Joivan Wade, The First Purge), all led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Daulton, Licence to Kill). Season 3 opens on the culmination of Dorothy’s (Abi Monterey) confrontation with the Candlemaker that leads to a devastating loss. Each member of the Doom Patrol struggles to face who they are and who they want to be. Things get a whole lot more complicated when Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez, THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT) arrives in a time machine with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it. Two back-to-back episodes will stream on the first two weeks, then the series will follow a weekly release schedule with one episode dropping Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on Crave and one episode airing at 10 p.m. ET on CTV Sci-Fi Channel.

SEPTEMBER 24 – MORTAL KOMBAT (2021) *Movie Premiere*

  • Inspired by the blockbuster video game franchise, MORTAL KOMBAT (2021), from Warner Bros. Pictures, premieres Friday, September 24. After more than two decades since the last adaptation, fans of the MORTAL KOMBAT franchise can watch Earth’s greatest champions battle once again. Hunted by the fearsome warrior Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim, FAST AND FURIOUS 6), MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan, Deadpool 2) finds sanctuary at the temple of Lord Raiden. Training with experienced fighters Liu Kang (Ludi Lin, Aquaman), Kung Lao (Max Huang, No Way Out), and the rogue mercenary Kano (Josh Lawson, HOUSE OF LIES), Cole prepares to take on the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. In addition, Crave adds the first adaptation of the franchise, MORTAL KOMBAT (1995).
