MuchMusic gets a dose of B.C. cool as west coaster Jesse Giddings joins the ranks as MuchMusic’s newest VJ. The long time musician, avid concert goer and social media guru is set to engage and interact with the MuchMusic audience across Canada as the fans’ frontline to all things music and pop culture.
MuchMusic will add a second new VJ to the roster with the winner of Doritos® presents MuchMusic VJ 2.0. Nearly 4000 VJ hopefuls applied online at muchmusic.com, with only 16 lucky wannabes shortlisted. MuchMusic narrowed down the search to eight semi-finalists, all vying to secure a spot in the Final Four, to be announced Nov. 23. As of early December, Giddings’ short tenure as new guy will come to an end when the winner of VJ 2.0 joins the MuchMusic team.
In December 2008, Giddings threw caution to the wind and moved to Toronto to pursue his goals, with one in particular always on his mind – working for MuchMusic. The charismatic musician slash model slash jack of all trades first caught the eye of MuchMusic producers at an open casting call earlier this year. Producers were impressed with his knowledge of music, ability to connect with the audience, and interest in youth and youth issues.
“Music is such a big part of my life and working for MuchMusic is a dream come true,” said Giddings. “I’m excited to meet and get involved with MuchMusic fans, and support Canadian musicians along the way. Becoming a VJ is such an unbelievable opportunity and I’m thrilled to be a part of the team.”
Giddings is no stranger to the music scene. After learning to play the bass guitar from his dad over the phone, Giddings went on to rock the axe with indie bands Swingset Champion and We Shot the Moon. When he’s not checking out the latest indie band to hit the Canadian music scene, Giddings can be found on his computer tweeting and Facebooking with MuchMusic fans.
