CP24’s Breaking Storm Coverage Sees Audience Spike 191%

CP24’s BREAKING NEWS COVERAGE of the lightning storm in Toronto attracted more than 1.7 million unique viewers between the hours of 6 – 11 p.m., 191% higher than the average summer audience. According to BBM Canada Preliminary Overnight Data, CP24 was watched on average by 291,000 viewers during the peak of the storm, between 9:30 – 10 p.m. CP24’s storm coverage made it the most-watched channel – specialty or otherwise – in the Toronto market last thursday, with a total reach of 2.5 million viewers, up 69% compared to the summer average.

CP24.com also saw a boost during the storm. Page views at CP24.com were up almost 600% between the hours of 9 – 11 p.m. CP24 viewers were also engaged on social media during the storm, with the channel’s Twitter handle @CP24 gaining more than 3,600 Twitter followers in one day.

In another example of how GTA viewers turn to CP24 for breaking news coverage, CP24 also saw viewership spike on Tuesday when the area experienced the rumblings of the Virginia earthquake. CP24 saw an overall increase of 28% compared to the average summer audience, reaching a total of 1.83 million viewers that day.
