MUST-WATCH TITLES FOR MAY
May 3 – SHRILL *Season 1* (Six Episodes)
- The six-episode first season of the critically acclaimed comedy series SHRILL drops on Friday, May 3. Co-executive produced, co-written, and starring Aidy Bryant as Annie, a fat young woman who wants to change her life, but not her body. Annie is trying to start her career as she juggles bad boyfriends, a sick parent, and a perfectionist boss, while weighing the pros and cons of having a child with her hook-up buddy. The series also hails from Lorne Michaels, Elizabeth Banks, Alexandra Rushfield, and Lindy West.
May 19 – GAME OF THRONES *Series Finale* (9 p.m. ET)
- In the epitome of event television, Canada kicks off the first long weekend of the summer with the epic 120-min series finale of GAME OF THRONES on Sunday, May 19. The Season 8 premiere episode recently broke Canadian viewership records, with 9 million Canadians tuning in across Crave’s linear, on demand, and streaming platforms.
As a bonus to fans, the HBO documentary GAME OF THRONES: THE LAST WATCH debuts a week after the big finale, on Sunday, May 26 at 9 p.m. ET. The two-hour documentary is directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay and chronicles the making of the final season, the series’ most ambitious and complicated. With unprecedented access to the production, the special delves deep to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in very real studios, fields, and car-parks located in Northern Ireland.
May 23 – VIDA *Season 2* (10 Episodes)
- The entire 10-episode second season of VIDA, winner of Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards, begins streaming on Thursday, May 23 on Crave with the STARZ add-on. VIDA stars Mishel Prada and Melissa Barrera as sisters Emma and Lyn who take on the monumental task of navigating complex familial relationships to rebuild their mother’s legacy, a crumbling bar and apartment building on the east side of Los Angeles. The series is created and executive produced by Tanya Saracho, Robin Schwartz, Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub, and Stephanie Langhoff, and the ensemble cast includes Ser Anzoategui, Chelsea Rendon, Carlos Miranda, Roberta Colindrez, Raúl Castillo, and Adrian Gonzalez.
Season 2 joins Crave’s new LGBTQ By Inside Out Collection, which launches on May 1. In addition to VIDA, the collection includes titles such as MILK, HBO’s LOOKING, Ellen Page’s VICE series GAYCATION, and more.
May 31 – DEADWOOD *Premiere* (8 p.m. ET)
- HBO Films’ DEADWOOD is based on David Milch’s acclaimed, Emmy®-winning HBO series of the same name. The indelible characters of the show are reunited after a decade to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood, and former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested, and old wounds are reopened as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought. Returning cast members include: Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, Dayton Callie, Brad Dourif, Robin Weigert, William Sanderson, Kim Dickens, Gerald McRaney, Sean Bridgers, Earl Brown, and Keone Young, among others. Seasons 1-3 of the original DEADWOOD series are available for streaming on Crave.

May 3 – AT THE HEART OF THE GOLD: INSIDE THE USA GYMNASTICS SCANDAL *HBO Documentary Premiere* (streaming at 8 p.m. ET)
- Based on the sexual abuse scandal that shook the sports world in 2017, the film examines how Larry Nassar, the osteopathic physician for the U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team, went undeterred for so many years. Director Erin Lee Carr offers exclusive interviews with survivors, delivering insights beyond the headlines, while shining a light on the brave gymnasts who have shared their stories and whose courageous efforts reveal a dangerous system that prioritized winning over everything else.
May 6 – CHERNOBYL *HBO Miniseries Premiere* (Mondays 9 p.m. ET)
- Based on the 1986 nuclear accident, CHERNOBYL tells the story of the brave men and women who made incredible sacrifices to save Europe from unimaginable disaster. Jared Harris portrays Valery Legasov, a leading Soviet nuclear physicist, Stellan Skarsgård plays Soviet Deputy Prime Minister Boris Shcherbina, and Emily Watson stars as Ulana Khomyuk, a Soviet nuclear physicist committed to solving the mystery of what led to the disaster. The five-part miniseries was written, created, and executive produced by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck.
May 10 – WU-TAN CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN *SHOWTIME Docuseries Premiere* (Fridays at 9 p.m. ET)
- An official selection of the 2019 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, this four-part documentary series reflects on the group’s career as they commemorate the 25th anniversary of their debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Filmmaker Sacha Jenkins combines intimate interviews with each of the nine living members with never-before-seen footage and performances.
May 10 – THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE *Season 2* (14 Episodes)
- From executive producer Steven Soderbergh, Season 2 of STARZ’s groundbreaking limited series THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE drops on May 10. Taking on a new format with two parallel storylines, Season 2 follows entirely new characters as they explore the relationships between exclusive escorts and their clients.
May 14 – WHAT’S MY NAME | MUHAMMAD ALI *HBO Documentary Premiere* (8 p.m. ET)
- This two-part HBO Sports documentary chronicles the extraordinary life of one of the 20th century’s most iconic figures, exploring his challenges, confrontations, and comebacks through recordings of his own voice. The film paints an intimate portrait of a man who was a beacon of hope for oppressed people around the world and, in his later years, was recognized as a global citizen and a symbol of humanity and understanding. From executive producers LeBron James and Maverick Carter and Antoine Fuqua who serves as director and executive producer.
May 28 – RUNNING WITH BETO *HBO Documentary Premiere* (8 p.m. ET)
- Winner of an Audience Award at SXSW earlier this year, David Modigliani’s behind-the-scenes documentary RUNNING WITH BETO follows Democratic Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s rise from virtual unknown to national political sensation. The film draws on intimate access to the politician, his tight-knit family, and his team of political newcomers, who champion a new way of getting to know a candidate, one Texas county at a time.
May 17 – NIGHT SCHOOL *Movie Premiere*
- NIGHT SCHOOL is a comedy from director Malcolm D. Lee starring Tiffany Haddish as a clever teacher and Kevin Hart, Rob Riggle, and Romany Malco, as group of adults who haven’t graduated from high school but together are determined to earn their GEDs.
May 24 – BROCKMIRE *Season 3* (Eight Episodes)
- The eight-episode third season of the critically acclaimed comedy series BROCKMIRE drops on Friday, May 24. The series stars Hank Azaria as Jim Brockmire, a garrulous, recently sober baseball announcer who’s climbing his way back to the major leagues. Amanda Peet co-stars. Guest stars for Season 3 include J.K. Simmons, Martha Plimpton, Linda Lavin, and Baseball Hall of Fame inductee George Brett. Season three takes place three months after his stint in rehab, with Brockmire doing play-by-play in the radio booth for the major leagues in central Florida during spring training while maintaining his brazen and narcissistic tendencies, despite actually being on the wagon.
