BritBox, the streaming service from BBC Studios & ITV offering the largest collection of British television in North America, welcomes almost a decade of incredible television with seasons 1-9 of Call the Midwife in Canada on June 25. Audiences will also be able to indulge in hours of behind-the-scenes content as well as the Christmas special episodes. BritBox will also be the exclusive premiere home of Call the Midwife season 10, which brought fans to tears when the series was renewed, and all future seasons.
Created by Heidi Thomas and produced by Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Productions, Call the Midwife is a moving, intimate, funny and, above all, true-to-life look at the colourful stories of midwifery and families in East London in the late fifties and early sixties. Based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth née Lee (Jessica Raine, Fortitude), Lee arrives in Poplar knowing nothing about hardship, poverty or indeed, life itself. She soon becomes part of a team of midwives and nuns at Nonnatus House who provide the poorest expectant mothers with the best possible care. Vanessa Redgrave provides the voice of Jenny Lee Worth, and stars such as Emerald Fennell (The Crown), Helen George (The Three Musketeers), Leonie Elliot (Killed by My Debt) and Miranda Hart (Spy) have joined the cast over the years.
With just one eight-bed maternity ward to serve the whole district, the series follows Jenny as she travels through the streets to meet her patients in their homes. Call the Midwife offers a fascinating insight into a community on the brink of huge social change. The trailer for Call the Midwife on BritBox can be found here.
