Global News once again demonstrated its dominance Tuesday night by leading all election night broadcasts in British Columbia. Almost 1.7 million viewers from across the province tuned into Global BC and BC 1’s combined Decision BC coverage special to watch Premier Christy Clark’s Liberal Party win a majority government, and the Green Party elect their first-ever MLA to the Provincial Legislature.“We are pleased to see that British Columbians have again made us their number one choice for comprehensive coverage of the province’s biggest and most impactful stories,” says Kenton Boston, Vice President, Global BC & National News. “This reflects the hard work and high level of professionalism demonstrated by our entire news team last night in bringing viewers the most up-to-date results possible both on-air and online.”

Based on preliminary data, the Decision BC election coverage special won the night in the key news-relevant Adults 25-54 demographic, beating combined CBC and CHEK coverage by 74%, and CTV by 93%. In addition, this coverage garnered the highest ratings in the Adults 2+ demographic, more than doubling the totals of all broadcast competitors combined. BC 1 also achieved its highest ratings since launching earlier this year.

British Columbians also made GlobalNews.ca a top online destination for up-to-the minute election coverage, generating a staggering 182% more average page views than the period just before the website’s re-launch earlier this year.
