The pomp and pageantry of Friday’s Opening Ceremony will be replaced by hard-fought victories and championship moments on Saturday and Sunday as the first medals are handed out at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Days 1 and 2. Canada will have its first chance at a medal in the pool on Saturday with the likes of Ryan Cochrane and Emily Overholt competing Saturday, while the women’s basketball and rugby teams begin their quests for the podium and the beach volleyball tournament gets underway. The Canadian women’s soccer team will play their second match of the tournament, looking to maintain their undefeated record against Zimbabwe.

Sunday offers the first chance to see Olympic Games legend Michael Phelps in competition as he looks to add more gold to his stellar resume. Canadian stars Pamela Ware and Jennifer Abel will compete in 3m synchronised diving while indoors on the court, the Canadian men’s volleyball team makes its long-awaited return to the Olympic Games.

Coverage will be available on TV across CBC, TSN, TSN2, Sportsnet and Sportsnet ONE. Viewers can also watch CBC’s live streaming coverage at cbc.ca/olympics, on CBC’s app for Rio 2016 for iOS and Android devices and in virtual reality using the CBC Olympic Games Virtual Reality app.
