CBC Podcasts Announces Fall 2022 Lineup Featuring Three Powerful New Series

CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster and #1 Canadian podcaster today shared details about its original podcast slate for fall 2022. The upcoming lineup features two all-new, powerful investigative series: PRESSURE COOKER, the mind-boggling story of a couple entangled in a terrorism investigation; and THE OUTLAW OCEAN, exploring the lawlessness and crime on the world’s waterways. The fall season also includes Pauline Dakin’s podcast adaptation of her best-selling memoir RUN, HIDE, REPEAT about her mysterious and complicated childhood spent on the run.

“Powerful storytelling is the throughline of our fall docket, from investigating modern-day slavery on the lawless oceans to telling the tale of a couple caught in a precarious swirl of conspiracy, and sharing the recollections of a woman working to unravel the mysteries of her childhood spent on the run,” said Arif Noorani, Director, CBC Podcasts. “Our invaluable collaboration with our partners at L.A. Times Podcasts has made this season’s incredible lineup even stronger, helping to create world-class content that links dynamic personal experiences to broad and timely themes.”

CBC Podcasts’ fall lineup can be found on CBC Listen and everywhere podcasts are available. Series debuting in the coming months include:

PRESSURE COOKER (5 episodes)
Launching Tuesday, September 6

Three bombs. Two unlikely suspects. One wild investigation. John and Amanda have lived on the fringes their whole lives. They’re on welfare, living with John’s grandma, and struggling with addiction to opioids and Dungeons and Dragons. Everything changes when a mysterious figure with ties to extremist terror enters their lives. Soon they’re caught up in a web of deception and conspiracy that could land them in prison for the rest of their lives – a trap set for them by undercover cops as part of a sprawling, costly sting operation. Hosted by Vancouver filmmaker Dan Pierce, PRESSURE COOKER is a five-part series exploring how two misfits wound up at the centre of a plot to bomb a national holiday celebration. Listen to the trailer here.

THE OUTLAW OCEAN (7 episodes)
Launching Monday, September 26

The high seas are beyond the reach of international law, and beyond the beat of most reporters, but Pulitzer Prize-winner and former New York Times journalist, Ian Urbina, has sailed into uncharted territories. Urbina set out on a years-long quest to investigate murder at sea, modern slave labour, environmental crimes and quixotic adventurers. Part travelog, part true-crime thriller, this seven-part series takes listeners to places where the laws of the land no longer apply. Produced by The Outlaw Ocean Project and brought to you by CBC Podcasts and L.A. Times Podcasts. Listen to the trailer here.

RUN, HIDE, REPEAT (5 episodes)
Launching Tuesday, November 15
Organized crime… Secret police… Double lives… Family secrets. Pauline Dakin’s childhood was marked by unexplained events, a sense of unseen menace and secretive moves to new cities with no warning. When Pauline was a young adult, her mother finally told her what they were running from, and it was a story so mind-bending, so disturbing, Pauline’s entire world was turned upside down. RUN, HIDE, REPEAT is the story of Pauline’s life on the run, her quest for the truth, and her search for forgiveness. Based on the best-selling 2017 memoir, it’s a profound emotional journey that spans decades and an entire country, leaving listeners questioning what’s real and who they can trust.

CBC Podcasts’ fall 2022 season also includes the return of weekly pop culture series POP CHAT (September 7), hosted by Elamin Abdelmahmoud, as well as ongoing shows: THE DOSE, FRONT BURNER, NOTHING IS FOREIGN and SICKBOY.
