Global Toronto Wins RTDNA Central Region Award for Best Newscast

Global Toronto won big again this afternoon, capturing three awards at the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Central Region Awards Banquet, including the Bert Cannings Award – Best Newscast for Toronto in the Crossfire, covering the Summer 2012 Danzig street shooting. The station also came away with the Dan McArthur Award – In-depth/Investigative and the Digital Media Award for its joint Global Toronto and GlobalNews.ca series Gardiner: Trouble Overhead.

The win capped off a successful week for Global Toronto, after claiming four International RTDNA Edward R. Murrow awards this past Thursday, honouring the best in reporting from news organizations operating outside of the United States. These wins included another Best Newscast award forToronto in the Crossfire and a Best Continuing Coverage nod for the Gardiner: Trouble Overhead series. Global Toronto also won Best Use of Sound/Video, as well as Best Writing for Whistling Eduardo by reporter Dave Gerry. In total, Global Toronto has captured seven industry awards this week for reporting excellence, adding to a tally that includes winning Best Local Newscast at this past February’s Canadian Screen Awards.
