Crave Highlights for May 2022

MUST-WATCH TITLES FOR MAY


MAY 5 – HBO Max’s THE STAIRCASE *Limited Series Premiere*

  • Accident or Murder? The HBO Max Original limited series THE STAIRCASE, starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette, follows the compelling true story of Michael Peterson (Firth), a novelist accused of killing his wife Kathleen Peterson (Collette). Starring alongside Firth and Collette are Michael Stuhlbarg, Juliette Binoche, Dane DeHaan, Olivia DeJonge, Rosemarie DeWitt, Tim Guinee, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sophie Turner, Vincent Vermignon, Odessa Young, and Parker Posey. The eight-episode series, debuts Thursday, May 5 with three episodes, followed by a weekly release schedule with new episodes streaming Thursdays.


MAY 5 – STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS *Series Premiere*

  • STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Dropping Thursday, May 5, the series features fan favorites from Season 2 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The story follows Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. The ten-episode spin-off prequel series premieres on Thursday, May 5, followed by a weekly release schedule with new episodes streaming Thursdays as well as airing on CTV Sci-Fi Channel, Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.


MAY 12 – HBO Max’s HACKS *Season 2 Premiere*

  • Emmy® Award-winning and critically-acclaimed HBO Max Original comedy series HACKS returns for Season 2 Thursday, May 12. The dark mentorship between legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Emmy and Golden Globe® Award-winning actress, Jean Smart) and her young, entitled writer Ava (Emmy® nominated actress, Hannah Einbinder) continues to evolve as the two travel across the country workshopping Deborah’s new stand-up act. The series also stars Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Candyman) and Jane Adams ( Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), both Emmy® nominated for their Season 1 performances. The eight-episode season, debuts Thursday, May 12 with two episodes, followed by a weekly release schedule with two new episodes dropping Thursdays.


MAY 13 – Crave Original Series SHORESY *Series Premiere*

  • Streaming Friday, May 13 the spin-off of Crave Original series LETTERKENNY, SHORESY sees the foul-mouthed, chirp-serving, mother-loving, fan favourite character, Shoresy, join the Sudbury Bulldogs of the Northern Ontario Senior Hockey Organization (The NOSHO) on a quest to never lose again. Created by and starring Jared Keeso, two new episodes of the six-episode, half-hour hockey comedy rollout every Friday.


MAY 13 – THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS *Movie Premiere*

  • From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes the long-awaited fourth instalment in the groundbreaking Matrix film franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity. To find out if his reality is a construct, and truly know himself, Mr. Anderson (Reeves) must choose whether or not to follow the white rabbit once more. The film also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Eréndira Ibarra, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, and Neil Patrick Harris. THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS is available for streaming on Friday, May 13. The first chapter of the franchise, THE MATRIX, is streaming now.


MAY 15 – HBO’s THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE *Series Premiere*

  • An intricate and magical love story adapted by Steven Moffat from the much-loved novel by Audrey Niffenegger, HBO’s new drama series THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE premieres Sunday, May 15. Directed by David Nutter, the series tells the story of Clare (Rose Leslie, GAME OF THRONES) and Henry (Theo James, Divergent), and a marriage with a problem…time travel. The six-episode series follows a weekly release schedule with new episodes streaming Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. 


MAY 20 – ROADRUNNER: A FILM ABOUT ANTHONY BOURDAIN *Documentary Premiere*

  • Directed and produced by Morgan Neville, ROADRUNNER: A FILM ABOUT ANTHONY BOURDAIN follows the uncommon life and career of world-travelling celebrity chef, writer, and icon Anthony Bourdain, and attempts to shed some light on the mystery surrounding his suicide in 2018 at age 61. The documentary, which premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, features interviews with David Chang and Éric Ripert, members of the production crew from PARTS UNKNOWN, as well as deeply personal recollections from Bourdain’s friends and family. The documentary streams Friday, May 20.


MAY 20 – COOKIE MONSTER’S FOODIE TRUCK – 30 Episodes *Series Premiere*

  • COOKIE MONSTER’S FOODIE TRUCK is a dynamic new way for kids to learn where their favourite foods come from. In each five-minute episode, Cookie Monster and his hilarious pal Gonger receive a video call from a child who orders a favourite dish.


MAY 20 – ELMO’S WORLD – 30 Episodes *Series Premiere*

  • Welcome to Elmo’s wonderful world, a place full of wonder, joy, and learning! Elmo uses his imagination to transform his bedroom into “Elmo’s World.”

MAY 3 – HBO’s SPRING AWAKENING: THOSE YOU’VE KNOWN *Documentary Premiere*

  • Streaming Tuesday, May 3 at 9 p.m. ET, SPRING AWAKENING: THOSE YOU’VE KNOWN is an emotional, star-studded tribute to Spring Awakening, on the 15th anniversary of its Tony award-winning Broadway run. In a spectacular, one-night-only reunion concert to benefit The Actors Fund, the documentary pulls back the curtain to showcase the reunited original cast and creative team at rehearsals, in their homes, and backstage. The film also features electrifying performances from the reunion concert in November 2021 and performance footage from the original 2006 show, which forever changed the lives of the mostly unknown teenage cast, including Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele, who inspired a generation of fans by laying bare taboo issues of teen love, abortion, abuse, sexual identity, and suicide, in an unapologetic, edgy rock musical set in the 1890s.


MAY 27 – Crave Original Special Kyle Brownrigg: Introducing Lyle *Canadian Stand-Up Special Premiere*

  • In the second of Crave’s seven new original stand-up specials, filmed in front of a live audience during the 2021 Just For Laughs Festival in Montréal, comic Kyle Brownrigg takes the stage in this hilarious half-hour special, where he laments gender reveal parties, talks about his Irish boyfriend, and introduces the world to his drunk persona, Lyle. The homegrown Crave Original special drops Friday, May 27 on Crave.
