Bigger Sharks and Bigger Bites! 31st Annual SHARK WEEK Makes Massive Splash, Beginning July 28

One of Discovery’s most-anticipated events of the year, SHARK WEEK, returns for its 31st edition with more shock and jaw, and more “Vitamin Sea” than ever before, beginning Sunday, July 28 and continuing through Saturday, August 3. SHARK WEEK 2019 delivers more than 20 hours of ground-breaking shark-themed content. The seven-day, fin-tastic event features some of the world’s most respected marine biologists and science institutions taking on daring shark experiments in search of compelling insight into the mysterious world of sharks.

This year’s lineup kicks off with EXPEDITION UNKNOWN: MEGALODON, premiering Sunday, July 28 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT, where Josh Gates joins paleontologists and marine biologists to unravel the mystery of the 60-ton mega-shark’s disappearance from the oceans. Then, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT celebrity ambassador Rob Riggle embarks on the ultimate “shark trip” in SHARKTRIP: EAT. PREY. CHUM. From Will Packer, the record-breaking producer of Girls Trip, the special sees Riggle convince his celebrity friends Adam Devine, Damon Wayans Jr., Anthony Anderson, and Joel McHale to join him on the shark dive of a lifetime. Riggle is also set to host the week’s nightly talk show SHARK AFTER DARK, airing at 11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT, capping off each day’s SHARK WEEK programming.

For the first time, SHARK WEEK premieres a scripted feature-length film, CAPSIZED: BLOOD IN THE WATER, airing Wednesday, July 31 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. The film is based on the harrowing true story of a crew that becomes prey to a group of tiger sharks after their yacht capsizes in the chilling waters of the Atlantic. With the hope of rescue dwindling, they must do everything in their power to survive as the sharks continue to hunt them. CAPSIZED stars Josh Duhamel, Tyler Blackburn, Rebekah Graf, Beau Garrett, and Josh Close.

Discovery Canada premieres the Crave Original Documentary SHARKWATER: EXTINCTION, the final work by late filmmaker and conservationist Rob Stewart, on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. This inspiring and action-packed documentary follows Stewart’s courageous crusade across four continents to investigate the corruption behind the multi-billion-dollar pirate fishing trade and massive illegal shark fin industry. From West Africa, Spain, Panama, Costa Rica, France, and even North America, Stewart exposes the shocking truth that is leading to the extinction of the world’s oldest remaining predator.

Subscribers can live-stream every minute of SHARK WEEK through the Discovery app and Discovery.ca. Select SHARK WEEK episodes will also be available on-demand for free on the Discovery app and Discovery.ca following each broadcast. Viewers can also catch up now on previous collections of SHARK WEEK titles including BEAR VS. SHARK and SHAQ DOES SHARK WEEK, on-demand.

Adding to the excitement, a special SHARK WEEK collection swims onto Crave beginning July 26. A fresh lineup of shark-themed specials joins the service on the Friday before SHARKWEEK, including SHARKCAM STAKEOUT, SHARKS AND THE CITY: NEW YORK, and GUY FIERI’S FEEDING FRENZY. These titles join a stacked offering of shark content already available on Crave, including movies like The Meg and previous SHARKWEEK specials.
