MUST-WATCH FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 1
CTV: New CTV Original series HOLMES FAMILY EFFECT debuts Sunday, Feb. 7 directly following SUPER BOWL LV at approximately 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, before moving to its regular timeslot, Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT beginning Feb. 14. On the series premiere “A Trade of a Lifetime”, Mike, Sherry, and Michael Holmes take on a project that is close to their hearts when 18-year-old Riley asks for their help to save her school’s skilled trades program at Judith Nyman Secondary School in Brampton, ON. With some help from school alumnus and special guest Russell Peters, the Holmes family transforms three rundown classrooms – and wears their teachers’ hats to give the kids a chance to learn from the pros. As a special thank you for helping change the students’ lives, the trio and Riley also give back to her extraordinary teacher, Mr. Meleca. The renovation not only impacts the current students, but will improve learning for future classes of trades professionals, making it a special project for the Holmes family.
CTV Comedy Channel: In celebration of Black History Month, the Monday night stand-up lineup for February is Black, female, and funny, beginning with WANDA SYKES: TONGUE UNTIED on Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. In the one-hour stand-up special, filmed at New York’s Palace Theater, Sykes pulls no punches as she shares her irreverent thoughts on George W. Bush’s presidency, the insanity of airport security, and the real reason women fake orgasms.
CTV Drama Channel: The stakes are at an all-time high on an all-new episode of FULL BLOOM, airing Thursday, Feb. 4 at 10 p.m. ET. First, competitors need to prove they can wow on a budget by creating impressive arrangements pulled together with $50 worth of grocery store flowers. Next, the artists bring heaven and hell to life in a group challenge of unearthly proportions, but both team leaders risk being cut if they fail to execute their visions.
CTV Life Channel: Jamie Oliver and childhood friend Jimmy Doherty are joined by Oscar®-winning actress Susan Sarandon on an all-new episode of JAMIE & JIMMY’S FOOD FIGHT CLUB, airing Monday, Feb. 1 at 9 p.m. ET. Sarandon swaps the glamour of Hollywood for the charm of New Orleans, where she filmed Dead Man Walking, as the trio cook up the ultimate seafood gumbo – the official state cuisine of Louisiana.
CTV Sci-Fi Channel: On an all-new episode of oddball drama series RESIDENT ALIEN, airing Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 10 p.m. ET, Harry’s (Alan Tudyk, Rogue One, FIREFLY) first week at the clinic sees him struggle to diagnose a strange feeling: human emotion.
CTV Movies: AKEELAH AND THE BEE joins CTV Movies on Thursday, Feb. 4. Eleven-year-old Akeelah Anderson’s (KeKe Palmer) life is not easy – her father is dead, her mom (Angela Bassett) ignores her, and her brother (Julito McCullum) runs with the local gang. Anderson is smart, but her environment threatens to strangle her aspirations. To avoid detention by her school’s principal (Curtis Armstrong) for her many absences, Anderson participates in a spelling bee, and, much to her surprise and embarrassment, she wins. Her principal asks her to seek coaching from an English professor named Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne) for the more prestigious regional bee. As the possibility of making it all the way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee looms, Anderson could provide her community with someone to rally around and be proud of – but only if she can overcome her insecurities and her distracting home life, Dr. Larabee’s demons, and a field of more experienced and privileged fellow spellers.
