2014 Olympic Winter Games – Programming Highlights for Satuday, February 22nd

The final weekend of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be co-headlined by the Men’s Ice Hockey gold medal game and the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 23. Prior to Sunday’s big events, it’s a full day of events on Saturday, Feb. 22 including the Men’s Ice Hockey bronze medal game, Alpine Skiing Men’s Slalom, the Men’s and Women’s Speed Skating 5,000m Team Pursuit events and Men’s Biathlon 4 x 7.5km Relay. Also scheduled for Saturday are the first two runs of Four Man Bobsleigh and the Figure Skating Gala Exhibition.

OLYMPIC MORNING: 
ALPINE SKIING: MEN’S SLALOM RUN 1 (7:45 – 8:30 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet and CBC
Last year’s World Champion Marcel Hirscher should lead a strong Austrian team in the competition while Germany’s Felix Neureuther and Ivica Kostelic are expected to be in in the medal hunt. Whistler’s Mike Janyk will represent Canada.
SPEED SKATING: MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAM PURSUIT FINALS (8:30 – 11 a.m. ET) on TSN and CBC
*CBC will also have coverage of this event at 3 p.m. ET
Women’s: Russia will go against Poland in the Semifinal 1, and Japan will face off against the gold medal favourite, the Netherlands. Winners will advance through to the final. Coverage includes both the semifinal and final.
Men’s: Denny Morrison, Lucas Makowsky and Mathieu Giroux will look to win a bronze medal by beating Poland in the Semifinal 2.
BIATHLON: MEN’S 4X7.5KM RELAY (9:15 – 11 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
*CBC will also have coverage of this event at 4 p.m. ET
This medal event features the Canadian team of Jean-Philippe Le Guellec, Scott Gow, Scott Perras and Nathan Smith who finished eighth at the 2013 World Championships. Norway, France and Germany are considered favourites heading into the event.
OLYMPIC DAYTIME:
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: BRONZE MEDAL GAME – FINLAND VS. CAN/USA (10 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET) on CBC
BOBSLEIGH: FOUR MAN RUNS 1&2 (11:15 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet
In the first of four runs in this event, Canada will have three entries piloted Lyndon Rush, Chris Spring and Justin Kripps, respectively. Other teams to watch include Germany, Russia, the United States and Switzerland.
ALPINE SKIING: MEN’S SLALOM FINAL (11:15 a.m. ET) streaming live at cbc.ca/olympics

FIGURE SKATING: GALA EXHIBITION (11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET) on TSN
This exhibition is the final chance to see the world’s best skaters perform at Sochi 2014.
BOBSLEIGH: FOUR MAN RUN 2 (1 – 2:15 p.m. ET) on CBC
Teams look to positions themselves well in the second run. The last two runs of the competition are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 23.
OLYMPIC PRIMETIME: 
OLYMPIC PRIMETIME hosted by Ron MacLean, CBC-TV and cbc.ca/olympics will be bringing Canadians context from the fifteenth day of Olympic Competition from Sochi at 7 p.m. ET. The full broadcast schedule can be found here.
