BritBox – July 2023 Listings

As summer sets in, BritBox will reprise its annual celebration of crimes and capers: Mystery Month. Season 5 of Idris Elba’s Luther kicks off the month that celebrates all things mystery, completing the full series on BritBox. Plus Emilia Fox-led true crime series, In the Footsteps of Killers, is back for S2 alongside her series, Silent Witness S26, the longest-running British procedural crime drama currently airing.


July 1, 2023: Luther S5 | New to BritBox | 4 x 50′ | All at Once 

Golden Globe and SAG Award-winner Idris Elba (Thor) returns to his iconic role. Created by Emmy-nominated writer Neil Cross (The Mosquito Coast). When the moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare, John Luther once again confronts the depths of human depravity. As a series of monstrous killings becomes more audacious, Luther and new recruit DS Catherine Halliday (Wunmi Mosaku, Loki) are confounded by a tangle of misdirection that seems to protect an unspeakable horror. But as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther faces the ghosts of his own past. July 6, 2023: The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes | New to BritBox | S1: 13 x 50′, S2: 13 x 50′ | All at Once

This series brings to life the many detectives of late Victorian London who were “The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes,” from R. Austin Freeman’s brilliant forensic expert Dr. John Thorndyke (John Neville, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen)  to Arthur Morrison’s notorious villain, private inquiry agent Horace Dorrington (Peter Vaughan, Game of Thrones), William Hope Hodgson’s world-famous ghost hunter Carnacki (Halloween) and Baroness Orczy’s detective Lady Molly (Elvi Hale, Bergerac) of Scotland Yard.


July 13, 2023: In The Footsteps of Killers S2 | BritBox Original, North American Premiere, BritBox Exclusive | 6 x 50′ | All at Once 

Silent Witness star Emilia Fox (Silent Witness) and Professor David Wilson, Britain’s leading criminologist, return to investigate famous unsolved murder cases. By visiting the scenes of the crimes and reinvestigating the evidence, they attempt to get to the bottom of what really happened.


July 18, 2023: Silent Witness S26 | BritBox Original North American Premiere, BritBox Exclusive | S26: 10 x 60′ | All at Once 

Award-winning crime drama Silent Witness returns for an exciting 26th series, with five more thrilling cases for the team at the Lyell Centre to solve. Dr. Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox, In The Footsteps of Killers) and the team of forensic pathologists and scientists investigate intriguing new cases: a body falling from the top of a skyscraper, a people trafficking operation, a suspicious death at a festival, a train crash, and corrupt police officers.
