Canada’s Quest for Gold Continues at the 2010 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, Live on TSN and TSN2

TSN travels to Cologne and Mannheim, Germany, as Team Canada says guten tag to the world and goes for gold at the 2010 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, live May 8 to 23, exclusively in High Definition on TSN and TSN2. Games are also available live and on-demand at TSN.ca.

In total, TSN and TSN2 will produce live coverage of 15 games featuring match-ups from the preliminary and qualification rounds, all quarter-final and semifinal match-ups, and the Bronze and Gold Medal games (see broadcast schedule below).

TSN’s Dave Randorf and Mike Johnson will call the action from the broadcast booth in Germany, with Rod Black hosting from the TSN studio alongside analyst Dave Reid, who was recently named general manager of the OHL’s Peterborough Petes. SPORTSCENTRE’s John Lu is also on site in Germany, filing daily reports.

Along with having games live and on-demand, TSN.ca will have all the latest news, highlights, expert analysis, scores and standings from the 2010 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, plus online chats during live game broadcasts using Facebook Connect. Fans on-the-go can also keep up with Team Canada using TSN Mobile and TSN’s App for iPhone.

The IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP features the best men’s hockey teams from 16 countries. The annual event involves a talent crop of NHL stars not participating in the NHL Playoffs representing their home countries in international competition.

Team Canada’s roster has numerous players with international experience, including Steven Stamkos, John Tavares and Olympian Corey Perry, who won gold as a member of Team Canada earlier this year at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Mark Messier serves as the team’s general manager, with Craig MacTavish as head coach and Peter DeBoer and Billy Moores as assistant coaches.

Team Canada looks to improve on its second-place finish at last year’s WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Switzerland. Canada has won the gold medal at the IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP a record 24 times, winning it most recently in 2007.
Team Canada is in Group B for the preliminary round of the tournament with Italy, Latvia and Switzerland.
