In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, The HISTORY® Channel will air an encore presentation of the eye-opening Canadian original documentary True Story Part 1 (1×120). Shedding light on the relationship between Indigenous and settler people on the land that is now Canada, True Story Part 1 will receive repeat airings at 8 a.m., 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET/PT on June 21 and is available to stream on STACKTV. The two-hour documentary examines the real, and often misrepresented, history of Indigenous peoples, while investigating how to move forward and work towards reconciliation.
Exploring topics such as Turtle Island’s (North America’s) creation story and the settler theories that challenge it, the powerful role women, Elders, Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer people play in Indigenous society along with the unique tools used to record the past, True Story analyzes how Indigenous history has been hidden and rewritten. Told through Indigenous voices from across the country, the documentary uniquely explores history from an Indigenous point of view. The journey is heartbreaking, astonishing and shameful, but it is also uplifting and inspiring.
Picking up where Part 1 left off, the recently announced True Story Part 2 (1×120), premieres on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation this fall and will examine the painful legacy of the Indian Act and Residential School system on Indigenous peoples, the Sixties Scoop, the rise of Indigenous political movements, and the role of Indigenous veterans in Canada’s military.
