Leading up to and throughout the tournament, SPORTSCENTRE delivers soccer fans breaking news, reports, highlights, in-depth analysis, and original features. The compelling stories highlighted in these features include profiles on:

  • Bev Priestman: she overcame many odds to land the Head Coaching job for Canada’s women’s soccer team. Priestman has developed her own style of coaching, one that includes coming up with mottos to motivate the team. The first one was “Change the Colour of the Medal” – mission accomplished at the Toyko Olympics – now onto “Climbing the Biggest Mountain in the World”.
  • Vanessa Gilles: she travelled a unique path to her spot on Team Canada, having only started playing soccer competitively when she was 15. Her rapid rise in the sport, built on hard work and fierce determination, has shown her to be “Undeniable”.
  • Quinn: they came out as transgender and non-binary just ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and sometimes the attention they get for this is a mixed blessing. While committed to helping young trans athletes feel they belong in sport, the hate Quinn faces on a daily basis is shocking. Senior Correspondent Rick Westhead has frank conversations with Quinn and their family where they share what has been, at times, an isolating experience.
  • Kailen Sheridan: Canada’s netminder who was a shy child until she started playing soccer. Her love of the sport brought her out of her shell but also led to the perfectionist in her sometimes getting the best of her. She is at the top of her game heading into this World Cup and it’s been said she is currently the best in the sport.

The network also provides extensive digital features on TSN.ca, the TSN app, and across TSN’s official social media accounts for the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND 2023™, highlighted by:
