As the NHL continues to ease into its off-season, TSN Radio 1050 Toronto today announced a new noon-hour radio program, THE LUNCH WITH ANDI PETRILLO. Airing weekdays from 12 noon ET to 1 p.m. ET, the show shines the spotlight on a different kind of sports conversation, as Petrillo conducts in-depth discussions on significant issues, and interviews with fascinating personalities from around the world of sports. TSN 1050’s LEAFS LUNCH returns to the airwaves upon commencement of the 2020-21 NHL season, with Petrillo as host.
THE LUNCH WITH ANDI PETRILLO looks beyond the daily sports news cycle and goes in-depth on topics that inform the many ways sports are evolving.
“I’m thrilled to bring this special new project to the airwaves at such a pivotal time,” said Petrillo. “While LEAFS LUNCH is on hiatus, I’m looking forward to sharing important stories and discussing sports, society, and the ways they intersect. As we navigate this world we’re in and try to make it better, I’m very excited to utilize my platform to shed light on these compelling topics.”
The program’s weekly roundtable discussions include the following highlights:
- The impact of COVID-19 on North America’s major sports leagues, and how the NHL and NBA can safely return amid a second wave
- Athletes and mental health
- Athlete activism and the role of the WNBA and NBA in the social justice movement
- The issues facing minor hockey and how to improve it
The show also features long-form interviews with fascinating sports figures. On Tuesdays, the “Trailblazers” segment focuses on the impact of women in sport, with the first guest being the legendary Manon Rhéaume. Every Friday is “My Greatest Game”, in which Petrillo chats with an athlete to break down the greatest game they ever played in and what made it so special.
