TELETOON Announces 9 New Development Deals
Posted on Monday, July 24, 2006 - 08:47 AM
Teletoon

TELETOON is pleased to announce today that it has entered into nine (9) new development agreements with Canadian producers. At this early stage, 7 projects are being developed for kids and family viewing, while 2 have been slated for The DETOUR on TELETOON, the network’s post 9pm programming block.

Benefiting from this start-up financing, are 2 production houses —Toronto’s Marblemedia and Montreal’s Zone3— entering the animation arena for the first time, cementing TELETOON’s commitment to fostering Canadian talent and strengthening the industry. The nine projects in development are:

BEST ED, from Toronto-based 9 Story Entertainment;
GROOVE HIGH, from Montreal-based Divertissement Subséquence;
HERMAN, from Ottawa-based Funbag Animation Studios;
JET FORCE, from Toronto-based Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc.;
MY LIFE ME, from Montreal-based Carpediem Film & Television;
PUNCH, from Montreal-based Kiwi Animations;
SHORT DETOUR, a co-production between Montreal-based Zone3 and Toronto-based Nelvana;
THE DATING GUY, from Toronto-based Marblemedia;
THE ZODIACS, from Toronto-based Portfolio Entertainment.

The Original Production team will oversee the evolution of these projects into strong TELETOON branded series: bold, spontaneous and smart!

BEST ED, 9 Story Entertainment
Flash animation, series
The series centers on the friendship between a squirrel named Buddy, and a terminally helpful hound, named Ed. Ed shares his tireless good deeds with folks from the town of Swellville, starting with his neighbours, the Kitten Twins, Mister Thursty, and Miss Fluffé, who harbours a mild crush on Ed. Joining TELETOON in developing the series, is Cartoon Network.

GROOVE HIGH, Divertissement Subséquence
Flash animation, series
Groove High is the high school of performing arts, where Zoe navigates through the typical teenage problems of love, friendship, ambition, and above all, dance.

HERMAN, Funbag Animation Studios
Classical 2D, series
The new animated primetime series is based on the popular syndicated newspaper comic by Jim Unger, and features Herman, and his reactions to an insane world populated by lovable misfits surviving various life crisis.

JET FORCE, Cookie Jar Entertainment
2D/3D, series
Aviation, action, adventure… a promise this series is making to K6-12. While sky pirates are preying on air travelers, and governments are fighting over airspace, an elite flight squadron comprised of top flyers are working undercover to resolve these air disputes, while competing in races around the world.

MY LIFE ME, CarpeDiem Film & TV
2D/3D, series
Birch Small is a 13-year-old budding manga artist, at grip with the age-old question “how can you be yourself when you’re still finding out who you are?” The series capitalizes on the popular Japanese manga style.

PUNCH, Kiwi Animations
2D/3D, series
This new satirical show pokes fun at the Quebec star-system through the eyes of Florian, a roving reporter at Punch.

SHORT DETOUR, Zone3 and Nelvana
2D/3D, series
Just like the old WB cartoons, with recurring characters featured in fun and witty short episodes, this new series aims at inviting various smaller prodcos to create short animation pieces. Developed under a similar tone and feel, a slate of characters would appear randomly, in new comical situations, every week, building familiarity and loyalty with the viewers.

THE DATING GUY, Marblemedia
Flash, series
Mark is a single guy looking for love. He will take advice from anyone from the gas station attendant to the kids in the neighbourhood to TELETOON audience. This multi-platform concept invites viewers to partake throughout the week in Mark’s quest via the Internet, mobile phone or Ipod, and rendez-vous with him on his night out to see whether he took “your” advice, or not.

THE ZODIACS, Portfolio Entertainment
2D, series
John Kricfalusi is joining Portfolio to develop a series based on the popular tween girl website. In the series, a dozen Solar Superheroes, all representing the signs of the Zodiac, defend earth from a 13 year-old boy seeking revenge for a thousand years of neglect.
