GolTV’s Extra Time to expand to one hour beginning June 11, Mo Johnson joins the show as analyst

GolTV and Insight Sports announced that Toronto FC’s Manager and Director of Soccer Mo Johnston will join the network’s original weekly program Extra Time as an in-studio analyst beginning on Wednesday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. ET. With the addition of Johnston, Extra Time will double its length and expand to a one-hour program. The show will also move from its weekly Friday timeslot and will air each Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. ET beginning on June 11.

“I’m looking forward to working with GolTV and putting together some entertaining shows,” said Johnston. “Hopefully our fans will enjoy it as this program will give them an opportunity to learn a little bit more about Toronto FC along with the latest developments surrounding Major League Soccer.”

As an analyst on Extra Time, Johnston will headline a new segment entitled Mo Johnston Unplugged, presented by Nestle Waters. As part of the segment, Johnston will provide viewers with analysis and commentary on all the news and highlights involving Toronto FC and Major League Soccer.

“The combination of Mo’s expert knowledge, flair and humour will provide supporters of Toronto FC with an entertaining and informative behind the scenes look at Canada’s premier soccer franchise,” said Corey Russell, Vice President of Programming and Production for Insight Sports. “Toronto FC has some of the most passionate fans in all of Canadian sports and we look forward to bringing their supporters an exclusive inside look on their team from Mo Johnston’s unique perspective.”

Johnston served as Toronto FC’s inaugural head coach during the 2007 season before being promoted to his current position in February 2008. Prior to joining Toronto FC, Johnston spent 10 seasons in Major League Soccer, including four years as a coach.

Currently in the midst of its second season, Extra Time provides viewers with a weekly look at all the news, scores and highlights from Canada’s national soccer teams, Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC and United Soccer League’s Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact. Extra Time is hosted by Lee Godfrey and features former Canadian men’s national team player and coach Paul James as an in-studio analyst.

The lead broadcaster on GolTV since its inception in 2005, Godfrey has also served as the play-by-play commentator for Match Capsule, an original GolTV Canada production. In 2007, Godfrey was the studio host for GolTV’s coverage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
