CHUM Limited announced today the end of its licensing agreement with Rainbow Media Holdings Inc. for use of the MuchMusic brand and original programming on Rainbow’s U.S. channel.
MuchMusic USA launched in 1994 as a partnership between CHUM Limited and Rainbow Media Holdings. CHUM subsequently sold its 50% interest in the channel to Rainbow in March 2000 and entered into an agreement authorizing Rainbow to continue the use of the MuchMusic trademarks and programming. This agreement expires at the end of May of this year, at which time Rainbow will no longer have rights to the MuchMusic name, marks and programming.
“The end of this agreement allows us to look for new opportunities in the U.S. market that are more in line creatively with our well-established programming concepts and operating systems, and deliver our signature streetfront style and interactive content across a variety of platforms,” said David Kines, Vice President and General Manager of MuchMusic / MuchMoreMusic.
