W Network announced [recently] highlights of its 2002/2003 broadcast
schedule, which includes 30 new series. The new schedule, which kicks off
September 2, is sure to captivate Canadian women and continue the momentum of
attracting new viewers to W. Highlights include Just Cause, a new
Canadian drama; A Guy & A Girl, a new hybrid of sitcom/sketch comedy from
celebrated producer WAYNE GRIGSBY and Divine Design with CANDICE OLSON,

The Canadian production Just Cause is the first drama series commissioned
by W Network. Shot in Vancouver and premiering with a two-hour movie on
Sunday, September 15th at 9 p.m., Just Cause is a legal drama with a
conscience. Alexandra DeMonaco (ELIZABETH LACKEY – Far and Away) is a
wrongly convicted young mother turned legal eagle. When paroled, she lands a job
as an assistant to a respected lawyer (RICHARD THOMAS – The Waltons, Wonder

of the most painful, exhausting and scariest. Birth Day Girls
follows the pregnancies of 12 women from a range of backgrounds and
circumstances. Armed with a digital video camera, each woman keeps a “video
diary,” capturing their innermost thoughts, anxieties, reflections and joy that
take place before and after the birth. The stories document the birthing of
twins, first-time parents, a single mother, an unplanned pregnancy, a fertility
treatment-related birth and a late-in-life pregnancy. The end result is a
compelling collection of human stories about how women and the people close to

The Book Group
The UK’s Channel 4 comedy series The Book Group promises to be
anything but literary-based. This fresh and funny program introduces an eclectic

Set in Glasgow, Scotland, the cast of characters include Claire (ANNE DUDEK), a
young American new to the city; three football players’ wives; an illiterate
group of football fans who follow the wives; a wheelchair-bound Kenny (RORY

Decorating Challenge, The (Season 5)

The Decorating Challenge has given itself a makeover and begins
the new season with some changes, including a new one-hour format and an
increased budget. The show is also going on the road, with episodes being shot
in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Vancouver. Viewers’ favourite designers are back
more often, and will be tackling some unusual spaces, including meeting rooms in
Anglican and United churches and teachers’ offices.
Would you give a friend free license to decorate a room in your home? Would you
dare return the favour? This is a design show with a twist. There are rules. Two
close friends or family members are each provided with $1,500 a designer and a
professional carpenter. They are given 18 hours to redo a room in their homes.
The catch is that they will be re-designing each other’s homes. Participants
stay at a hotel so they won’t get a chance to peek. At the end of the show, the
finished rooms and the homeowners’ reactions are revealed. Will there be delight
or disappointment? Hosted by RENÉE MONTPELLIER, the show is chockablock with
design and decorating tips for people on a budget.

Season two of Mercy Peak is a Canadian co-production that will launch in
the winter of 2003. In the new season, up-and-coming Canadian actress ANGELA
VINT (Traders) will be introduced. Vint will play Helen Blakemore, a doctor
whose heart may be in the right place, but whose head is usually somewhere else.
Mothers and Daughters
Mothers and Daughters is a documentary series that explores the

Open for Discussion returns to W Network with new host, AVRIL
BENOÎT of CBC Radio One’s Here and Now. Featuring movies that address
issues many Canadian women face in their own lives, Open for Discussion
provides a forum for viewers to call in with concerns on the given topic, during
and after the broadcast. Following the movie, Benoît leads a panel discussion on
the issue just raised, drawing on the knowledge and opinion of various guest

W Dance, a North American Amateur Dance Sport competition will be
taped in Toronto in October/November 2002 and the combined Snowball
Classic 2003 and The World 10 special, featuring top
amateur couples from around the world, will be taped in Vancouver in February
2003. These three energetic specials spin the sport of dance back on to the W
Network. The W Dance event and the Snowball Classic 2003 feature
couples competing in both the Latin and Standard Divisions. World 10
