Prince Charles Judges New Reality Series, The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation, premiering August 10 on Makeful

The Prince's Master Crafters

This summer, Makeful will take viewers across the pond spotlighting Britain’s rich heritage of traditional crafts with The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation (7×60’). Hosted by comedian and artist Jim Moir, the series follows six amateur craftspeople as they learn Heritage Crafts skills crucial to the preservation of landmark buildings, taking on a variety of crafting challenges to supercharge their abilities before creating a final showcase piece to present to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Joined by some of the country’s leading experts: wood carver Sarah Goss; blacksmith Phil Carter; stone carver Zoe Wilson; pargetter Johanna Welsh; stained glass artist Derek Hunt; and weaver Rezia Wahid, each episode is themed around one key discipline. The Canadian broadcast premiere of The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation airs Wednesday, August 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on Makeful.

Britain has a rich heritage when it comes to traditional crafts. From basket weaving to blacksmithing; kilt making to clock building; and glass blowing to glove making. These skills have been passed down from generation to generation and now, humanity risks losing them forever. In 2021 in the UK, four heritage crafts were declared extinct and a further 56 critically endangered. The Prince’s Foundation advocates for the revival and preservation of heritage craft skills through spreading awareness among young people, sparking a resurgence of interest in crafting and offering an array of education and training programmes through its UK sites. The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation aims to bring some of these crafts back to life, reinvigorating them with a new generation of talent.
