Viewers can expand their viewing beyond the borders of Hollywood with titles like HBO’s LOS ESPOOKYS (Mexico), 30 COINS (Spain), THE INVESTIGATION (Denmark/Norway/Sweden), MY BRILLIANT FRIEND (Italy/USA), and the upcoming BEARTOWN (Sweden), which joins the collection on Feb. 22; films like Arab Blues (France/Tunisia), Parasite (South Korea), and Ghost in the Shell* (Japan); and more.
- The Canadian crime drama TARGET NUMBER ONE begins streaming Friday, Feb. 19. Directed by French-Canadian Daniel Roby (Funkytown) the feature film stars Josh Hartnett (Lucky Number Slevin) as Canadian investigative journalist Victor Malarek, examining the suspicious arrest of drug addict Daniel Léger (Antoine Olivier Pilon, Mommy), who is imprisoned in a Thai jail. The film’s cast also includes Jim Gaffigan (Chappaquiddick), Stephen McHattie (Watchmen), Don McKellar (SENSITIVE SKIN), J.C. MacKenzie (The Trial of the Chicago 7), and Amanda Crew (SILICON VALLEY).
- All three episodes of SHOWTIME’s provocative docu-series SUPERVILLAIN: THE MAKING OF TEKASHI 6IX9INE, profiling hip-hop artist Tekashi 6ix9ine’s epic rise to notoriety and spectacular fall to convicted criminal, drop Sunday, Feb. 21. Directed by Karam Gill (Ice Cold, G-Funk), the series traces how New York City deli clerk Daniel Hernandez manufactured himself into viral hip hop sensation Tekashi 6ix9ine, the ruthless, tattooed face of Gen Z and hip hop’s prince of trolls. Narrated by Giancarlo Esposito (BETTER CALL SAUL), and featuring an exclusive post-prison interview with 6ix9ine, the series unpacks the life-shattering results of influence, impact of social media, and the disturbing possibilities of a deeply connected world.
- HBO Documentary Films’ four-part docu-series ALLEN V. FARROW premieres Sunday Feb. 21 at 9 p.m. ET. From award-winning investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering, and Amy Herdy, the series goes behind decades of sensational headlines to reveal the private story of one of Hollywood’s most notorious and public scandals: the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then seven-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow; their subsequent custody trial, the revelation of Allen’s relationship with Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi; and the controversial aftermath in the years that followed. Once celebrated for their on and off-screen partnership, Farrow and Allen’s lives were irrevocably fractured and their sprawling family torn apart with the public disclosure of the abuse allegations and the vitriolic disputes that followed. ALLEN v. FARROW follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
- The feature-length documentary THE SIT-IN: HARRY BELAFONTE HOSTS THE TONIGHT SHOW drops Monday, Feb. 22, joining the Black Excellence Collection. Directed by Yoruba Richen (The New Black), the film chronicles the monumental moment in American history when legendary entertainer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte hosted THE TONIGHT SHOW in place of Johnny Carson. The film follows the history-making week in February, 1968 when an African American got the opportunity to host the popular show for the first time ever. Amidst a backdrop of riots across the country and the Vietnam War, Belafonte welcomed guests that included Aretha Franklin, Sidney Poitier, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert Kennedy. Utilizing never-before-seen footage from this pivotal week, the film features interviews with Belafonte, Whoopi Goldberg, Questlove, Buffy Saint-Marie, Dionne Warwick, Wesley Morris, and more.
- Based on Fredrik Backman’s bestselling novel of the same name, HBO Europe’s BEARTOWN, premieres Monday, Feb. 22 at 9 p.m. ET. The Swedish-language crime drama centers on a floundering community in Sweden that places its dreams of revitalization on the teenage shoulders of its junior ice hockey team. Boosted by their new professional-athlete-turned-coach Peter (Ulf Stenberg) and rising star Kevin (Oliver Dufåker), the boys finally have a shot at securing a national title – until a violent act threatens to destroy Beartown entirely. The series explores family trauma, teenage romance, truths and lies, actions and consequences, and ultimately, the courage it takes to go against the group and stand up for justice. BEARTOWN follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
