Crave invites Canadians to step into the ring for Season 2 of the critically acclaimed docuseries DARK SIDE OF THE RING, which continues to lift the veil on some of wrestling’s most controversial figures, venturing even deeper into the sport’s shrouded past and revealing the brutal and often tragic consequences of a life lived in the ring.
The Crave Original series is produced in partnership with VICE Studios, and returns for its 10-episode second season beginning with a two-episode premiere Tuesday, March 24 at 9 p.m. ET, followed by a weekly rollout Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
Season 1 of DARK SIDE OF THE RING, streaming now on Crave, earned a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned praise from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson wrote on Twitter that the series “hits home for me as all these tragic stories are from pro wrestlers who my grandfather, my dad, and myself have all wrestled and became friends with over the years. Kudos to the filmmakers: a captivating watch.”
Narrated by wrestling icon and former WWE superstar Chris Jericho, the season premiere of DARK SIDE OF THE RING delves into the tragic story of Montréal-born wrestling superstar Chris Benoit. In 2007, Benoit, one of the biggest names in the sport, killed his wife Nancy and seven-year-old son Daniel before hanging himself. His crime shocked the world and sparked a conversation about mental health in sports that continues to this day.
The two-hour special premiere offers unprecedented access to Benoit’s inner circle of family and friends who reveal their complicated feelings about the tragedy 13 years later, including his son David, who remarked “that definitely was not him….he’s still my hero.” Sandra Toffoloni, Nancy Benoit’s sister, said “I think I do, someday want to forgive him… it’s not today.”
Season 2 also dives into a new slate of wrestling stories including: the murder of Dino Bravo; the controversial “Brawl for All” tournament that led to career-ending injuries; the feared career of New Jack; David Schultz’s violent run-in with a 20/20 reporter; the death of Nancy Argentino, Jimmy Snuka’s girlfirend; the inside story of wrestling’s ultimate tag team partnership Hawk and Animal; Herb Abrams’ fanatical attempt to build a wrestling empire; and the devastating story of Owen Hart’s stunt that went tragically wrong.
