Nearly three years ago The Movie Network became the first Canadian broadcaster to integrate High Definition into their daily programming schedules. Today, they continue to be technology forerunners in Canadian broadcasting through both High Definition and the theatre-quality sound of Dolby Digital 5.1. The Movie Network broadcasts an average of 12 High Definition titles per month and an average of 16 Dolby Digital 5.1 titles per month, programmed with multiple showing times.
In April 2000, The Movie Network aired their first High Definition movie FORCES OF NATURE with Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck, and later that year SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS starring Ethan Hawke became the very first movie offered in Dolby Digital 5.1. In addition to the big theatrical hits, The Movie Network’s programming library has expanded to include original HBO movies and exclusive series such as THE SOPRANOS.
“Our mission is to keep premium television premium,” said Chris Bell, VP Technology. “And as such, to meet the demands of our subscribers who increasingly invest in sophisticated home entertainment environments, we became early adopters of HDTV and Dolby 5.1 audio technologies.”
