CBC Kids News and MAJ, Radio-Canada’s news platform for kids, invite young Canadians aged 6–13 to ask Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Dr. Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, their questions about the nationwide effort against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kids may submit their questions from Thursday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. EDT to Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m. EDT by email to CBC Kids News at cbckidsnews@cbc.ca for English speakers and via the MAJ website or Zone Jeunesse on Radio-Canada.ca for French speakers.
All questions will be compiled by the CBC Kids News and MAJ teams so that the prime minister receives a selection representative of kids’ concerns. Prime Minister Trudeau and Dr. Tam will answer them in a video conference that will be available simultaneously on the CBC Kids News and MAJ platforms, and broadcast on CBC TV, CBC Gem and ICI TÉLÉ on Sunday, April 5 at 9:00 a.m. EDT. CBC/Radio-Canada will make this video conference available to all broadcasters.
This initiative is yet another example of how CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to serving Canadians of all regions, backgrounds—and ages—during this crisis.

Beginning April 5, CBC Kids programming has been extended by 1.5 hours on Sunday mornings, with content for preschoolers aged two to six now airing on CBC from 6 to 9:30 a.m.

Indigenous preschool series ANAANA’S TENT (13×22, Taqqut Productions, Canada) launches all episodes on CBC Gem on Friday, April 17, with versions available in English and Inuktitut. In a very special tent in the Arctic, Rita Claire and her husky Qimmiq learn new songs, words and stories with the help of some animated friends and Inuit performers.

Podcast THE STORY STORE, from CBC Podcasts and CBC Kids and run by CBC Kids hosts Gary the Unicorn and Mr. Orlando, presents THE STORY STORE SHORTIES (21×4) – small original audio stories, custom-ordered by kids, to bring big smiles. Two episodes are released each week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, on CBC LISTEN or wherever podcasts are available. The first shortie, “Astro-Shark!”, is available now.

Spooky animated kids comedy series THE STRANGE CHORES (26×11, Ludo Studio & Media World Pictures, Australia) premieres Saturday, April 11 on CBC and CBC Gem. Two teenage wannabe warrior heroes and a super high-spirited ghost girl master the skills they need to replace the world’s greatest (and oldest) monster hunter by doing his strange, supernatural chores. CBC Kids News, the news site for Canadian kids ages nine to 13, continues to operate remotely and publish age-appropriate and informative daily updates on the COVID-19 situation and how it is affecting kids across the country. CBC Kids News will host an Instagram Live Q&A on Wednesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m. ET featuring public health expert Cathy Egan, who will answer questions from kids about COVID-19.

Weekly news show RECAP, powered by CBC Kids News and featuring host Myah Elliott, also continues to publish remotely, summarizing the top stories of the week in an easily digestible vlog-style format. RECAP is published Friday afternoons on cbckidsnews.ca and broadcast Saturday mornings on CBC and CBC Gem.
Free streaming service CBC Gem offers more than 300 hours of ad-free programming for children of all ages, and the Kids & Family Collections include categories such as Get Movin’, to encourage physical activity; For Curious Families, with family-friendly documentaries; and Family Couch Gathering, for co-viewing options.
