A VERY BARRY CHRISTMAS sees Santa Claus taking the winter wonder ‘down under’ in a hilarious and heartwarming twist on a classic Christmas theme. It tells the story of Barry Buckley in a sparkling tale of misadventure that spans the earth-from the white snowy cold of the North Pole to the red-hot desert of the Australian outback. An original hour of stop motion animation, A VERY BARRY CHRISTMAS airs Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. on CBC Television.
Barry Buckley is a man with the best of intentions and the world’s worst luck. He runs a charity of sorts in the Australian outback-caring for an oddball assortment of animals that conveniently call his place home. They love Barry-they just have a strange way of showing it. When Barry’s latest sure-fire business venture fails to ignite, a bizarre chain reaction of events ends in a catastrophic chance meeting with Santa. The two have unwittingly traded lives in a Christmas mix-up of epic proportions.
Now Santa’s really up the gum tree-stuck ‘down under’ with a bunch of animals that refuse to believe he’s the real deal. Marsupial madness follows as Santa begins to wonder if he really is who he thinks he is. Meanwhile, Barry has to contend with panic-stricken elves, sneaky reindeer with hidden agendas and nosy reporters asking too many questions at the ‘naughty or nice’ press conference.
By the end of this tale, you’ll believe that kangaroos can fly, the platypus has a lovely singing voice, and even Santa can learn a thing or two from the most unlikely of heroes-heroes like Barry Buckley, who proves anything is possible with a positive attitude and a bit of Christmas magic.
A VERY BARRY CHRISTMAS features the voice talents of Roy Billing as Barry Buckley, Colin Mochrie (Santa), Jacqueline Pillon (Nutmeg Reindeer), Shannon Lawson (Mrs. Claus), Deanna Aubert (Mrs. Hollyjolly), Gail Knight (Lilly), Jim Pike (Nigel), Michael Lamport (Walter), Aaron Pedersen (Warrun), Phil Williams (Dasher), Jim Rankin (Douglas Fir), Stewart Horsley (Mr. Merryweather/Polar Bear) and Cathy Keenan (Elf/Reporter).
