MUST-WATCH TITLES FOR SEPTEMBER
September 15 – RAMY *Season 1*
- Available as a STARZ Exclusive in Canada, RAMY is executive produced, created by, and stars Ramy Youssef, and explores the life of Ramy Hassan (Youssef), a first generation Egyptian-American who is on a spiritual journey in his politically-divided New Jersey neighbourhood. RAMY brings a new perspective to the small screen as it explores the challenges of what it’s like being caught between a Muslim community that thinks life is a moral test and a millennial generation that thinks life has no consequences. Jerrod Carmichael and Bridget Bedard also serve as executive producers.
September 9 – HBO’s THE DEUCE *Season 3 Premiere* (9 p.m. ET)
- From David Simon and George Pelecanos, the third and final season of THE DEUCE resumes its chronicle of the rise of pornography and the multi-billion dollar industry’s transformation of American culture, seven years after the culmination of Season 2. Season 3 brings viewers into the world of 1985, just as VHS overtakes film as the primary medium for porn production and distribution. The lure of the California sunshine, the city’s aggressive takeover of commercial sex properties in Times Square, and devastating impact of the AIDS epidemic mark the end of an era. With the party of the 1970s winding down, 42nd Street has deteriorated into a hive of uncontrolled violent crime and seedy video stores, making urban renewal seem more unlikely than ever before. Following the interconnected lives of Times Square’s barkeeps, prostitutes, pimps, police, mobsters, porn actors, and producers, the eight-episode third season brings the series’ arc to a dramatic conclusion. THE DEUCE stars an ensemble cast led by James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
