G4techTV Canada (formerly TechTV Canada) announced today that award-winning technology journalist and author Leo Laporte will be hosting a Canadian-produced technology help show. The new Canadian program will be called Call for Help, modeled after the same successful formula as the show Laporte hosted on TechTV for six years in the United States.
Canada's Call for Help on G4techTV Canada is scheduled to begin production in July and air later this summer on G4techTV Canada. This will be the first original television production for G4techTV Canada.
The show is designed to help viewers of all levels of technology knowledge get the most out of their technology and to keep them up-to-date on all the latest technology news and products. The hour-long program will feature responses to viewer calls and viewer e-mails as well as fun tech tidbits, updates on the latest trends in technology and product reviews. More show format details will be released in coming weeks.
"I've received hundreds of calls from Canadians while hosting Call for Help in the States. I'm looking forward to helping create a Call for Help just for Canadians," says Leo Laporte. "This show is for everyone with an interest in technology; from questions about how to connect a DVD player to how to reformat a hard drive."
Laporte has a strong cult following among technophiles. In fact, when US fans discovered that Laporte would be producing a Canadian Call for Help through a web blog on www.leoville.com, American Leo fans are now trying to find ways of accessing Canadian programming south of the border.
Laporte’s full career as a technology author, speaker, and broadcaster has made him a household name across the US. He has written three bestselling Technology Almanacs, and received the 2003 Pearson Publishing book of the year for Leo Laporte's 2003 Technology Almanac.
Laporte won an Emmy in 1997 for his work on The Site, a technology newsmagazine that aired nightly on MSNBC, CNBC International, and NBC Superchannel in Europe and Asia. He also hosted Call for Help and The Screen Savers that aired live every weekday from 1998 to 2004 on G4TV in the US and on TechTV Canada since 2001. He also appears regularly on many television and radio programs including G4TV's The Screen Savers, ABC's World News Now and Live with Regis and Kelly.
