Jacko jokes and Bashir-bashing keeping you from the real story?
Now, fans can join MuchMoreMusic on Friday, March 14th beginning at 6pm ET for the first one-stop encore of the world’s most publicized television events – and review the focus of the ongoing battle of “betrayal” between pop superstar Michael Jackson and British television journalist, Martin Bashir.
This back to back presentation of uber-docs “Living With….” and “Take 2…” comes at a time of renewed media fascination with Jackson’s bizarre behaviour. At the centre of it all is a feature for the April issue of Vanity Fair, wherein writer Maureen Orth’s troubling account of Jackson’s descent seems to take up where Bashir’s left off – with allegations including the hiring of voodoo priests to put curses on Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, crippling debt and Jackson’s ritual bathing in sheep’s blood to “cleanse” himself.
For the “Living With…” special @ 6& 10 pm ET, the pop superstar gave Martin Bashir of Britain’s ITV1 unprecedented and exclusive access to his home and private life for nearly 8 months – and in a series of interviews shot in America and Europe, spoke candidly in a no-holds-barred fashion on issues including his children, his cosmetic surgeries, and media reaction to the recent ‘baby dangling incident’ in Berlin.
“Take 2…” is Jackson’s counterattack – 8pm & Midnite ET, and features revealing comparisons between what his own cameras recorded in two of the main interviews and what Bashir chose to show in his version – including banter between interviewer and subject, their discussions of current events including the clergy sex-abuse scandals, and Bashir’s surprisingly effusive compliments about Jackson’s parenting and relationship skills.
