New jazz channel Cool TV launches September 4th

CanWest Global Communications Corp., announced today the launch of the new specialty channel – CoolTV. Beginning Thursday, September 4, jazz lovers can tune into a new channel devoted exclusively to exploring, reflecting and presenting the world of jazz in all its diversity.

“CoolTV is great news for jazz lovers,” said I.H. Asper, Chairman of CanWest and the driving force behind CoolTV. “If you have a passion for the genre, it just doesn’t get any better than this.”

From Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra to Canadian jazz sensation Diana Krall, it’s Cool Shows,
Cool Singers, and Cool Movies. CoolTV cuts across generations. It’s hip and romantic. It’s today and yesterday. It’s concerts and documentaries, including Ken Burns’ series Jazz and the Montreal Jazz Festival concert series. The cornerstone of the CoolTV schedule will be the evening movie featuring the best in sophisticated entertainment from Hollywood and around the world. Classic films such as Hello Dolly, Singing in the Rain, An American in Paris and The King and I will be available to CoolTV subscribers.

With its roots in jazz, CoolTV has an inexhaustible ability to entertain, inform and delight audiences.
CoolTV is a channel whose time has come.

CoolTV will be broadcast from the Company’s digital specialty play out center in Winnipeg and will add to the Company’s ventures into music programming, including Cool RecordsTM, Cool FM radio in Winnipeg, and The Beat, a new radio station to be launched in Kitchener, Ontario.

Thursday, September 4 and Thursday, September 11 @ 6pm ET

Don’t miss this two-part classic! Originally broadcast in 1965 and 1966, it features some of Ol Blue Eyes’ greatest hits including: Fly Me to the Moon, I’ve Got You Under My Skin and The Lady is a Tramp.

Ken Burns’ series: Jazz
Mondays @ 10pm

Ken Burns’ acclaimed series Jazz, examines the political and cultural changes that gave rise to the jazz phenomenon.

The Judy Garland Show
Saturdays @ 6pm

Originally broadcast from 1963 – 1964, the series showcases the talents of Judy Garland and guests including:
Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Count Basie, Lena Horne, Mickey Rooney and daughter Liza Minelli.

The Montreal Jazz Festival
Monday to Sunday @ 11pm
