TV GORD’S WHAT’S ON for the week of January 22-28, 2017

More new and returning shows this week, including two new Canadian dramas on the same night (Mary Kills People on Global and Cardinal on CTV), the resurrection of the ABC TGIT lineup of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder, and a new darker take on Archie and his comic book pals in Riverdale on The CW and Netflix. Hunted– 10pm on CBS (time approximate after football) – Series Premiere

This American version of a British reality series finds nine teams of two going on the run and trying to evade capture by a group of skilled investigators. The winners will receive a $250,000 prize. A two-hour edition will can also be seen on Wednesday at 8pm.

Mercy Street – 8 to 9pm on PBS – 2nd Season Premiere

Secrets of the Six Wives – 10 to 11pm on PBS – Miniseries Premiere

British Historian Lucy Worsley travels back in time to the stories of the six wives of Henry VIII in this three-part BBC docudrama.


The New Edition Story – 9 to 11pm on BET – Miniseries Premiere

A three-part dramatization of the 1980s boy band from their beginnings to their acrimonious end, which continues Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to 11pm.


Howie Mandel: A Bell Let’s Talk Special – 7pm on CTV and CTV Two

Howie Mandel discusses his experiences with mental illness as part of Bell’s Let’s Talk Day.

Mary Kills People – 9pm on Global – Series Premiere

Caroline Dhavernas (Hannibal) stars as Dr. Mary Harris, who tries to stay a step ahead of the law as she illegally ends the lives of her terminal patients.

Project Runway: Startup Project – 9 to 10pm on Bravo – Series Premiere

This spinoff of Project Runway takes a Shark-Tank-type approach by having young fashion designers pitch their ideas for a fashion line.

Cardinal – 10pm on CTV – Series Premiere

Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse star as John Cardinal and Lisa Delorme in this crime drama about two detectives investigating the murder of a young girl whose body is found in an abandoned mine shaft. Filmed on location in Sudbury and North Bay. Based on Giles Blunt’s mystery novel, Forty Words for Sorrow.

Suits – 10pm on Bravo – 7th Season Premiere


Riverdale – 9pm on The CW (available on Netflix the next day) – Series Premiere

Archie and the gang from the comic books come to life in a darker tone in this series that starts with new girl Veronica Lodge moving to town just as the residents of Riverdale are reeling from the mysterious death of a Riverdale High student. Filmed in Vancouver.

Scandal – 9pm on ABC – 6th Season Premiere

The Magicians – 10pm on Showcase – 2nd Season Premiere

Rillington Place – 10:15 to 11:30pm on BBC Canada – Miniseries Premiere

Tim Roth stars as serial killer John Christie in this three-part drama, each part seen through the eyes of a different character in the dramatization.


Walliams & Friend – 9 to 9:45pm on BBC Canada – Series Premiere

Comedian David Walliams stars in the BBC sketch comedy series that kicks off with an inappropriate take on Sherlock and Watson, with guest star Jack Whitehall.
