MuchMusic today confirmed that veteran VJ Mike Campbell will be stepping down as videographer and co-host of “Going Coastal” to pursue new challenges. The former co-host of “Mike & Mike’s Excellent X- Canada Adventures” plans to remain in his adopted home of Halifax, where over the past decade he has played a vital role in what has become one of the most exciting music scenes in Canada.
“MuchMusic has always been committed to the development of a healthy, creative and vibrant music community throughout Canada,” says David Kines, VP and GM for MuchMusic. “Mike’s contributions have been invaluable in developing and encouraging the East Coast music community, and we are very grateful for his dedication. His enthusiasm and drive will be sorely missed by us, but I’m sure Canadian music will continue to benefit from Mike’s work for many years to come.”
One of the first on-air personalities at MuchMusic, Mike spent years criss-crossing the nation, which inspired his motto “Try Canada First.”
“MuchMusic has been part of my life for nearly 20 years, and I’m very proud of what both myself and the station have been able to achieve during that time,” says Mike. “I’m excited about what the future might bring — while I’ll miss being part of the MuchMusic family, I’m committed to continuing what I started on Canada’s East Coast.”
In celebration of Mike’s work, “Going Coastal” will air a two-part ten- year retrospective on August 25 & September 1, 2002 @ 11pm ET. Vintage clips, breakthrough interviews and artist testimonials will trace the evolution of both Mike and the music scene on the East Coast over the last ten years.
