On March 1st, 2003, MTV Canada aims the spotlight at the award winning documentary series True Life with a six episode special.
Since the series first aired on MTV in 1998, True Life’s focus upon complex youth issues like adoption, eating disorders, binge drinking, single parenthood, and AIDS has established it as a favourite of both young audiences and critics. The real and honest look each installment takes at youth issues is what has made the series so successful in truly connecting with its audience.
Airing March 1st at 8:00pm ET, MTV Canada will showcase some of our most popular True Life episodes in addition to premiering three new additions to the series. The spotlight will conclude with the recent follow-up installment, “True Life: I was Famous for Five Minutes”. True Life will revisit some of the individuals featured in earlier episodes in order to catch up with their lives – getting the updates and, in some cases, the touching endings.
We begin the spotlight with “True Life, I’m Coming Out”, an exploration of the lives of 4 young people on their coming out journey to their family and friends. Followed with the premier of “True Life, I’m Adopted” – This powerful instalment follows the journeys of two young women adopted at birth, who decide to search for their biological parents. Then viewers will meet Kim, an unmarried and pregnant young woman who is deciding whether to give up her baby for adoption.
“True Life, I’m Getting Plastic Surgery” – From implants to bypass, we take at young people who feel the need for improvement and follow them into the operating room in their quest to attain it. We capture how their lives change, or don’t, after their procedures and whether they would choose to go through it again.
“True Life, I Have a Phobia” – Another premier episode that explores four people who have debilitating phobias and seek professional help to conquer them.
“True Life, I’m On Ecstasy” – This episode delves into the lives of four individuals and explores their personal experiences with the drug. From abuse to drug dealing, we look at the personal stories of people who got involved with ecstasy.
We conclude at 1:00am ET with the premier of “True Life, I Was Famous for 5 Minutes”; catching up the people from your favourite True Life episodes to show the shocking updates and touching endings to their stories. Featuring updates from the popular episodes, “I’m Getting Plastic Surgery”, “I’m Coming Out”, and everything in between.
