Strip Search, a new television series slated to air on Bravo! NewStyleArtsChannel in September 2003, today announced its search for ordinary Canadian men interested in joining an all-male,
bare-it-almost-all dance troupe. The cameras will be rolling as men, age 21and older, vie for a chance to join the group. Strip Search is looking for candidates – who require only enthusiasm and an ability to entertain – to send audition tapes by May 4, 2003.
“I’m not a professional dancer but I love to dance and have fun,” said Shawn Place, a bicycle technician from Dundas, Ontario who is the first person to submit an application to Strip Search in the hopes of being considered for an audition. “This is a chance for me to do something different with my life and shake things up a little. Who knows where an opportunity like this may
“We’re looking for decent Canadian guys who are interested in taking it off – physically and emotionally – for a chance at a new life that includes fun, travel and glamour,” said Noreen Halpern of Blueprint Entertainment Corp., who is producing Strip Search in Canada. “We are looking for men who are fit, healthy and ready to be bold and entertaining.”
Interested candidates must send a completed application form, passport-size photo and VHS tape to:
Take it Off Productions Inc.
1063 King St. West
The video should include a sample of their talent and be a maximum of three minutes in length. For more information or to get a copy of the application form, visit stripsearch.ca.
The program has attracted more than a 40 per cent share of weekly viewers for the New Zealand version and the format for this series has been sold around the world including recent sales to key broadcasters in the US, France and Australia. In Canada, Strip Search will document the creation of a Las Vegas-style all-male show from initial auditions to training and preparations
for the final live gala performance.
“The chosen men must be prepared to work like demons to turn themselves into international quality performers who understand the difference between cheeky fun, which is a turn-on, and sleaze, which is a big turn-off,” said Emmy-nominated Morgan Elliott of Suddenly SeeMore…Productions Inc. who is also producing the show.
Successful applicants will be invited to auditions that will take place in Vancouver, Victoria, Whitehorse, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax in May and early June. Of the hundreds of auditions, 20 men will then be selected and flown to Toronto for a week-long ‘Boot Camp’ in June. From that group, 12 guys will participate in an intensive seven-week training camp in September.
At “Boot Camp”, Strip Search will follow the finalists through a backbreaking schedule of rehearsals, costume fittings, workouts, dieting and body-building. In preparation for the show and pin-up calendar photo-shoot, the finalists will also spend time at a spa – getting tanned, clipped, trimmed and waxed. Wives, girlfriends, family members and co-workers will be drawn
into the story and, as the show develops, the group will be whittled down to six extraordinary Canadian performers. At the end of the series airing on Bravo! NewStyleArtsChannel, the final six will embark on a cross-Canada tour, to be produced by Billy Cross, the originator of Strip Search.
“Bravo! has always showcased the world of show business with stage performances, Broadway productions and Hollywood musicals,” said Isme Bennie, director of programming and acquisitions for Bravo!. “With Strip Search, Bravo! has the opportunity to reveal the behind-the-scenes process of how these productions evolve, from why someone would want to get into entertainment, to the auditions and the training, and then to the actual stage show. Strip Search gives us a real Canadian perspective too – it will all
happen right in our own backyard.”
Billy Cross started off as a bricklayer from Australia, and now runs a multi-million dollar production company. The original Strip Search show ultimately produced a seven-man dance troupe called Thunder From Down Under that has become an international success appearing to sell-out crowds in 15 countries. Thunder From Down Under currently performs nightly in Las Vegas at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino. Kiwi Fire, another dance troupe created by Billy Cross, produces an annual calendar that is the biggest seller in the world.
