The Colorado Rockies, fresh off their sudden death one-game playoff win, visit Philadelphia to take on the Phillies Wednesday, October 3 at 3:00 p.m. ET/ 12:00 p.m. PT in the opening game of the MLB Playoffs on Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD.

Sportsnet ramps up coverage of the post-season with MLB Connected Playoff Edition beginning October 11. The studio show, which coincides with the opening of the League Championship Series, will be hosted by Jamie Campbell and features Toronto Blue Jays catcher Gregg Zaun with expert analysis. Ken Rosenthal and Barry Davis cover the two ALCS teams while Craig MacEwen files reports on the NL combatants.

This year’s playoffs feature many new faces and one very familiar one. The New York Yankees are making their 13th consecutive trip to the post season after capturing the AL Wild Card spot with a hot September (19-8). The Yankees meet the Indians for the third time in franchise history. The Tribe took the first meeting, the 1997 ALCS, while the Yankees exacted revenge by winning the 1998 ALCS over Cleveland.

The Yankees are the only returning team from the 2006 MLB Playoffs. The Bronx Bombers (2000) are joined by three other teams – Boston Red Sox (2004); Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2002); Arizona Diamondbacks (2001) – all having won World Series Championships in the first decade of the new millennium. Ironically, the Red Sox, Angels and Diamondbacks all had to go through the Yankees in the postseason to capture their titles.

The rest of the playoff field is made up of teams all on extended World Series droughts. The Phillies only World Series Championship came in 1980. Cleveland has captured two titles but none since 1948. The Chicago Cubs faithful have been waiting since 1908 for their team to win it all. The Rockies, who only joined the league in 1993, have yet to win a World Series.
