The death defying debut of TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY on Saturday night shattered records for the series by delivering its highest audience ever on SPACE and SPACE HD. Life stood still as the premiere episode, “The New World”, put a death grip on an average of 432,000 viewers. In all, nearly one million viewers (929,000) tuned in to watch some part of the gripping start of this latest TORCHWOOD series.

When compared to the premiere of TORCHWOOD’s third series, CHILDREN OF EARTH, the premiere of TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY increased 55% among total viewers, 49% among A25-54, 53% among A18-49, and 56% among female viewers.

In the season premiere, “The New World”, death itself comes to a halt and the whole word faces its greatest danger yet. CIA agent Rex Matheson has only one clue – the word Torchwood. TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY saw the return of John Barrowman as enigmatic man of action Captain Jack Harkness along with Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper. Newcomers Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson), Alexa Havins (Esther Drummond) and Bill Pullman (Oswald Danes) have joined the fray this season, while Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner return as executive producers. “The New World” encores Tuesday, July 12 at 8 p.m. ET on SPACE and SPACE HD, and is now available for viewing on spacecast.com.

In the next episode, entitled “Rendition” (Saturday, July 16 at 9 p.m. ET), the Torchwood team is reunited, Jack realizes he’s the most vulnerable man on Earth and a flight to the U.S.A. turns into a desperate battle for survival.
