More Details About National Geographic Channel’s Fall 2008 Programming

In early june, Canwest revealed information about fall programming of its specialty channels. Today, we give more details about the new and returning programming as well as premiere dates (when available).

Lost In China [HD] (6×60min)
Canadian Premiere
Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT beginning October 21
China is on the cusp of whole new era – one filled with growing prosperity, massive construction and social reinvention. But behind the changes is a country brimming with ancient traditions, unique culture and incredible history. This series follows National Geographic Channel explorers Peter and Jeff Hutchens as they explore China and experience the blending of old and new Chinese traditions.

A Man Among Bears[HD] (1×60min)
Canadian Premiere
Tuesday, October 14 at 8 pm ET/PT
Ben Kilham has adopted and raised over 45 black bears and successfully returned them all to the wild. He has a true parental relationship with them which has allowed him insights into the behaviour and individual personalities never witnessed by any but their colosest kin. Follow Ben as he reveals the social interactions of these bears, and attempts to conduct several tests to demonstrate the bears’ intelligence.

The claim is often made that humans are really just apes and that as much as 98.4 percent of our DNA is shared with chimpanzees. But how similar are the two species in reality? Find out what our ape cousins can and can’t do and investigate exactly what is in the less-than-two percent of DNA that makes us the human ape.

Wednesdays at 8 pm beginning September 3
Join Richard Hammond (Top Gear) on a quest to discover the engineering connections behind the worlds most advanced engineering projects. These structures are jewels of high technology, but Hammond discovers hidden deep in their DNA an amazing range of unexpected inventions and ideas that had to have been invented first in order to create these structures. All of these pieces connect and play a key part in the greatest miracles of 21st century engineering.

Dog Whisperer [HD], Season Four (17×60min)

Weekdays at 5 pm ET beginning September 15
Cesar Millan is back in the fourth season of The Dog Whisperer. This season features overprotective watchdogs, brawling bulldogs, and a young, disabled Chihuahua who doesn’t want anything to do with the special transportation his owners have developed for him. Dubbed as ‘The Dr. Phil for Dogs’, join Cesar as continues to help troubled pooches and their frustrated owners.

Big, Bigger, Biggest [HD] (4×60min)

Wednesdays at 9 pm ET/PT beginning October 1
Big, Bigger, Biggest is a series about very large buildings, from the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Dubai, to the world’s largest airport, Heathrow International. Using a mix of stunning CGI animation and on-location filming, this series reveals the innovations that changed structural design forever and enabled them to grow from big to bigger to biggest.

Long Way Down [HD] (10 × 60min)
