Fall 2004 Highlights: ESPN Classic Canada

Programming highlights for 2004-2005.

ESPN Classic Canada continues to look back at the world’s all-time greatest sports moments with monumental games, unbelievable comebacks, controversial victories, huge upsets, career achievements, streaks, records and dynasties.

Leading up to major events on the current sports calendar, ESPN Classic Canada showcases classic moments from that event’s history with the following special theme weeks or weekends:

PGA Championship Week (August 9 to 11, 2004)
Prior to the 86th PGA Championship, ESPN Classic Canada takes fans back to some of the most unforgettable rounds from the historic tournament.

U.S. Open Tennis Weekend (August 28 and 29, 2004)
ESPN Classic Canada sets the stage for the U.S. Open with the most memorable matches featuring the game’s biggest players, including McEnroe, Graf, Navratilova, Agassi, Sampras and Borg.

Dynasty Weekend (September 24 to 26, 2004)
Some dynasties were meant to last forever. ESPN Classic Canada celebrates the best dynasties in sports history with unforgettable teams and athletes such as the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Edmonton Eskimos, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bulls, Tiger Woods and Muhammad Ali.

NHL Record Breakers (October 1 to 3, 2004)
ESPN Classic Canada profiles NHL teams and athletes that have set records in the National Hockey League.

Grey Cup Week (November 15 to 19, 2004)
ESPN Classic Canada warms fans up for the 2004 Grey Cup, paying tribute to the most unforgettable moments from the history of Canada’s November football tradition.

Homecoming Weekend (November 26 to 28, 2004)
ESPN Classic Canada features players’ ‘first games back’ as they take on their former teams after being traded.

World Junior Hockey Championship Weekend (December 18 and 19, 2004)
‘Tis the season for World Juniors! The popular holiday tradition is back and ESPN Classic Canada celebrates by revisiting the greatest teams and players that have laced up their skates in this annual tournament.

Boxing Day on Boxing Day (December 26, 2004)
ESPN Classic Canada features some of the greatest bouts to ever hit the squared circle. The theme day includes the Greatest Rounds of Boxing, HBO Boxing Classics and Classic Night at the Fights. Featured fighters include Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr., Arturo Gatti, Otis Grant and Marco Antonio Barrera.

Super Bowl Week (January 2005)
In January, ESPN Classic Canada keeps football fans at the centre of the huddle leading up to Super Bowl XXXIX with a look back at timeless, hard-hitting Super Bowl performances.

Heartwrench Weekend (February 2005)
ESPN Classic Canada relives some of the most disheartening and shocking moments in sports history, featuring a collection of classic games lost on a last-minute play.

Masters Week (April 2005)
Masters Week tees off on ESPN Classic Canada in April, preparing viewers for one of golf’s most prestigious events – The Masters. The theme week brings fans back to the greatest moments from Augusta National Golf Course, including Canadian Mike Weir’s triumph in 2003 and Phil Mickelson’s stunning victory in 2004.

90s Weekend (April 2005)
ESPN Classic Canada showcases the greatest games and most remarkable sports moments from the 90s.

Indy 500 Weekend (May 2005)
ESPN Classic Canada treats racing fans to a weekend of classic Indy 500 races, paying tribute to some of auto racing’s most celebrated superstars.

U.S. Open Golf Week (June 2005)
ESPN Classic Canada looks back at some of the most memorable U.S. Open tournaments in history.

British Open Week (July 2005)
ESPN Classic Canada reflects on the best putts, chips and drives from past British Opens.
