Tornados and Time Warps Come to Discovery Science in October

Posted September 21, 2011

Discovery Science is looking at the world a bit differently this October. First, Professor Brian Cox explains the mysteries of the universe using simple truths and mind-blowing images in WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE (Oct. 3). Then, from the radio that made the world smaller to the machine gun that made it more dangerous – reflect on the INVENTIONS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD (Oct.12). Afterwards, the boys of STORM CHASERS (Oct. 26) are back to put their lives on the line while tracking terrorizing tornados. And TIME WARP (Oct. 20) takes a slow motion view at everyday occurrences like getting punched in the face, throwing a kitten in the air, or blowing up a raw chicken breast.

October programming highlights for Discovery Science include:

NEW SERIES:

WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE
Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Oct. 3
Professor Brian Cox offers an insightful and mind-blowing exploration of space in this four-part series – showing our universe as we’ve never seen it before. Away from the telescopes, the labs and the white coats, Professor Cox uses the evidence found in the natural world to explain the universe’s simple truths.

INVENTIONS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD
Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Oct. 12

From the electric guitar, to the DNA fingerprint, the 20th century was the most spectacular era of invention in human history. This fascinating 10-part series takes viewers on a decade-by-decade voyage of discovery through the century of innovation that transformed our world, and changed the way we communicate, the way we think, the way we see ourselves.

TIME WARP
Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Oct. 20

How does a dog use its tongue to drink? In what exact way does a face contort when punched by a UFC contender? What happens when an egg falls into the pin wheeling blades of a fan? Or an apple is hit with a bullet? Find out in this 10-part series when MIT scientist and teacher Jeff Lieberman, along with digital-imaging expert Matt Kearney, slow things down with the latest in high-speed photography.

RETURNING SERIES:

STORM CHASERS
Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Oct. 26
It’s been a year of historic and tragic loss, unimaginable damage and an earth shattering reminder of nature’s force and power. Now get the whole story on this year’s record-setting tornados as extreme meteorologist Reed Timmer, IMAX filmmaker Sean Casey and veteran chaser Tim Samaras return for an all new season of STORM CHASERS. For eight-new episodes, the boys track the monster tornados that made headlines throughout this past spring storm season.
