Serenity Now! Discovery’s Worldwide Hit MIGHTY SHIPS Returns for Season 6, July 22 on Discovery Channel

Discovery Channel’s MIGHTY SHIPS returns with six all-new episodes offering unprecedented access to today’s most extraordinary vessels. Premiering Sunday, July 22at 8 p.m. ET/ PT, Season 6 kicks off with a special two-hour premiere featuring the world’s most luxurious cruise ship – the fantastic Crystal Serenity – immediately followed by an action-packed voyage aboard battle-bound USS New York, the first time the massive amphibious transport has performed all her functions.

Consistently voted the world’s top cruise ship by Condé Nast, Crystal Serenityis full of luxuries. She features contemporary suites, dining by the likes of Nobu, even penthouse suites with a full-service butler. And her guests keep coming back for more – half the passengers on any given sailing are repeat bookings. This cruise will take MIGHTY SHIPS into ports viewers have never seen before, including: the famous sites of Sydney harbour, the port of Melbourne, beautiful Bali and a large-scale furniture load in Semarang, Indonesia. The voyage concludes by sailing into one of Asia’s busiest ports: Singapore.

MIGHTY SHIPS: “USS New York”

Sunday, July 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT

USS New York is a tribute to those who perished on September 11, 2011. With 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the wreckage of the Twin Towers forming her bow stem, MIGHTY SHIPS follow USS New York as her 363-strong Navy crew welcomes some 600 Marines aboard for deployment exercises. Off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina, troops from the two forces must rehearse the launch of air and sea attacks with the utmost speed and precision: Marines scrambling onto helicopters moments before take-off; troop-filled transports rumble onto hovercrafts that peel out of the ship’s dock; and amphibious tanks dropping out the back of the ship and swimming ashore. It will be action-packed – and the last chance her crew has before being deployed for active service.

Programming note: MIGHTY SHIPS continues Sunday, July 29 with two all-new episodes beginning at 8pm ET/PT and completes its run on Monday, August 13^th and Monday, August 20^th at 7pm ET.
