More Details About BBC Canada’s Fall 2008 Programming

In early june, Canwest revealed information about fall programming of its specialty channels. Today, we give more details about the new and returning programming as well as premiere dates (when available).

Holby Blue (20×60min)
North American Broadcast Premiere
Mondays at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT beginning September 15

Holby Blue is a snapshot of policing post-9/11, as an intrepid team of officers deal with hard-nosed criminals while helping fight the war on terror on home soil. The figure of drug dealer and local gangster Neculai Stenga looms large over the station. He is Detective Inspector John Keenan’s nemesis. After a failed attempt to bring him down, Keenan suspects someone at the station is feeding Stenga vital information. Suspicion at first falls on young Constable Billy Jackson, but as the series races toward a dramatic finale, it becomes clear that Stenga’s inside man is someone a lot more senior.

George Gently (1×100min & 2×120min)
North American Broadcast Premiere
Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT beginning September 17

Chief Inspector George Gently (Martin Shaw, Judge John Deeds) is an old-fashioned policeman who has gained respect but few friends through his single-minded pursuit of law breakers. Gently’s journey is prompted by the murder of his wife by his old rival, the infamous gangster Webster – a murder that took place on the day of Webster’s release from the prison Gently previously delivered him to.

Mary Queen of Shops (10×60min)
Canadian Broadcast Premiere
Fridays at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT beginning September 19

This series see’s U.K. shopping guru Mary Portas transforming struggling retailers into stores equipped to compete with the ‘big box’ superstores. Mary is set to troubleshoot her way around Britain on a mission to help turn around suffering fashion boutiques, to overhaul not only their finances but their whole business, bringing the glamour back into the boutique.

Top Gear, Series Eleven (6×60min)
Canadian Broadcast Premiere
Sundays at 8 pm ET beginning September 21

Host Jeremy Clarkson is back for the eleventh series of Top Gear on BBC CANADA, with even more high-octane entertainment. The must-see show for the car enthusiast in everyone, Top Gear tells you all you need to know about cars, from basic road safety and car maintenance, to features.
