The Nile crocodile is one of the planet’s most feared apex predators. There is no record of humans diving with these magnificent and yet utterly terrifying creatures… until now. In an incredible one-hour special, wildlife photographer Roger Horrocks and world-renowned, underwater cameraman Didier Noiret travel to Botswana’s Okavango Delta to go INTO THE DRAGON’S LAIR. Premiering Wednesday, July 27 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT on Animal Planet, Horrocks and Noiret set out to prove that Nile crocodiles have onlyinvoluntarily displayed predatory behaviours towards people and normally do not consider human beings as intentional prey.

The “Dragon’s Lair” is an underwater labyrinth of tunnels and chambers, made by hippos and crocodiles, through the dense papyrus beds of the Okavango Delta. The waters of the Nile are pitch black; inside the endless labyrinth, visibility is poor and there is no easy way out. Animals can sense fear and these underwater adventurers know that one wrong move could end it all.

Making the conscious decision to enter croc-infested waters to capture never-before-seen footage of these almost-prehistoric reptiles in their natural habitat is what Horrocks considers “a calculated risk to experience what it is to be human.” And now, with these two adventurers at the mercy of crocodiles and with the constant threat of encountering menacing hippos, Horrocks and Noiret dive largely unprotected. They must fight to control their fear and panic with only their cameras and occasionally an unloaded spear gun to defend themselves. Undeterred by danger, the pair undertakes the ultimate challenge, embarking on a perilous and unpredictable odyssey as they go INTO THE DRAGON’S LAIR.
