Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) find out who lived long and prospered, as the original Captain James T. Kirk, William Shatner, interviews the other commanders in the Star Trek universe, in the Movie Central and The Movie Network documentary, The Captains. The Captains explores the individual and distinct relationships each actor has to the Star Trek brand, and how their lives were affected by their mutual association with the franchise. The Captains premieres Thursday, October 20 at 8 p.m. PT on Movie Central and 9 p.m. ET on The Movie Network.

“This is a very special and intimate project for me and I cannot wait for everyone to see it on the TV screen in Canada.” said William Shatner on The Captains.

Written and directed by Shatner, The Captains chronicles his quest to delve into the impact that Star Trek has had on his life. To find the answer, Shatner speaks to the elite group of five actors who have also assumed the mantle of Starship Captain, and in the process uncovers unique stories and compelling insights, ultimately giving him a better understanding of his own life and the impact the role has had on his career.

The 90-minute feature-length documentary features intimate and revealing interviews between Shatner and his fellow commanders including Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, Scott Bakula and Chris Pine, and offers viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the most durable and profitable franchises in entertainment history and the men and women who have made the Star Trek brand an international phenomenon since 1966.

The Captains is produced by Le Big Boss Productions Inc. and Ballinran Entertainment in association with Movie Central, a Corus Entertainment Company; The Movie Network, an Astral Media Network; EPIX; and Les Chaines Tele Astral – a division of Astral Broadcasting Group Inc; with the participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Media Development Corporation Film and Television Tax Credit.

The Captains will be broadcast in High Definition, and will be available on The Movie Network OnDemand and Movie Central On Demand and through The Movie Network OnLine with Rogers On Demand OnLine, Bell TV Online and Videotron’s Illico Web, and Movie Central Online with Shaw Video On Demand and Bell TV Online following their network premieres.
