Highly anticipated Showtime series The Big C premieres in Canada

Posted August 5, 2010

Super Channel is pleased to present the dramedy from Showtime that’s grabbing the attention of critics everywhere – The Big C starring three-time Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee Laura Linney. Canada’s only national pay television network premieres the series exclusively for Canadians Sept. 1 at 10 p.m. ET in vivid HD.

“We are thrilled to bring what is sure to be Showtime’s next acclaimed hit series to Canadians,” said Sandy Perkins, Super Channel, Vice President Programming. “The Big C stands out from the rest by being original, challenging and laugh-out-loud funny.”

Linney plays Cathy Jamison, a reserved, stifled, Minneapolis schoolteacher who finds out she has cancer and decides, from that moment on, it’s time to grab life by the balls. She changes everything, including her patience with her immature husband (played by four-time Emmy Nominee Oliver Platt), her bratty son and a troubled student (played by Academy Award Nominee Gabourey Sidibe), taking on what time she has left without excuses.

Directed by the Academy Award winning filmmaker Bill Condon, the series finds comedy and hope in hard-to-find places and unabashedly presents the struggle and triumphs in the new life of a woman who has just realized that growing old is a privilege and all she has left is time.

Liam Neeson and Cynthia Nixon will guest-star on the series.

Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET
