Global News announced today the hiring of Jim Haskins as Station Manager/News Director for Global Maritimes. A veteran senior executive with decades of broadcast, marketing and management experience, Haskins will oversee all editorial and station operations for Global Maritimes, and will help the station transition into its new state-of-the-art media facility on Gottingen Street this fall.

“This is an incredible time to be joining the award-winning team at Global Maritimes,” says Haskins. “The station is making the biggest move – literally and figuratively – in its history, laying the groundwork to become a real news powerhouse in this region. I’m honoured that I’ll have a role in Global Maritimes’ continued success.”
Haskins has an immense amount of experience working in all aspects of the media, most recently at CBC Television and CBC.ca, where he was responsible for media sales and marketing across Alberta. As Vice President and General Manager with Craig Media (later CHUM Ltd.), Haskins was instrumental in launching the company’s A-Channel Edmonton brand, leading the design of all local news and programming at the station. Haskins would later assume full financial and operational control of A-Channel Calgary and A-Channel Edmonton as Vice President Television, Alberta. Haskins would go on to launch his own media and communications consulting firm before serving as President and General Manager of the Grand Prix of Edmonton.
Haskins began his career as a reporter and anchor for CJIC TV and CKCY radio in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, before moving to CTV Kitchener, where he spent 14 years as a reporter, anchor and assistant news director. Jim then moved to CTV Winnipeg as the station’s News Director in 1993, later becoming Manager of News and Operations in 1996.
“Jim brings an extensive amount of experience to Global News, both as a journalist and anchor, as well as a key decision maker with a proven track record for growing and developing news stations across the country,” says Troy Reeb, Senior Vice-President, News & Station Operations for Shaw Media. “Jim’s understanding of the editorial, sales and marketing realms will help Global Maritimes continue to transform into a dominant player in the region and further set Global News apart from the competition.”
