After recently walking away with more 2011 RTNDA Awards (Canada) than any other Canadian television network, Global News is pleased to announce that its skilled team of news professionals has been honoured again. This time the accolades are from the Radio Television Digital News Association (US) with a 2011 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award each going to Global BC and Global Toronto.

Global BC’s News Hour won the Video Breaking News Coverage Award for its story on the avalanche that took place in Boulder, BC in March of 2010. The regional award for Video Newscast was given to Global Toronto’s News Hour for its round-the-clock coverage of the G20 Summit in June of 2010.

“The recognition that we have received from our peers over the past month has been absolutely incredible,” said Troy Reeb, Vice President, Global News, Shaw Media. “With the addition of these two international awards, we can truly say that Global News continues to be ranked among the world’s best news sources.”

Global BC’s News Hour and Global Toronto’s News Hour air weeknights at 6pm in each market.

The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honouring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow’s pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
