Production Begins on Season 2 of the CTV and The Comedy Network’s DAN FOR MAYOR

With municipal elections across the country now just days away, Dan Philip’s (played by series star Fred Ewanuick, CORNER GAS) term as the new Mayor of Wessex is just beginning. Sad Glasses Productions Inc. and QVF Inc., in association with CTV and The Comedy Network, announced today that production is underway on Season 2 of the hit comedy Dan For Mayor. Nominated for a Gemini Award for “Best Comedy Series”, Season 2 picks up with Dan stepping into the role of Mayor while struggling to cope with his new-found mayoral responsibilities. Scheduled to premiere on CTV and The Comedy Network in mid-season 2011, the 13-episode half-hour series shoots in Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener, Ontario until December 2010.

“I’m looking forward to the second season,” says Ewanuick. “Now that my character is actually mayor, he’s overwhelmed but what he lacks in experience he makes up for in ignorance”.

In Season 2, Dan Phillips is now “almost on purpose” the Mayor of Wessex. He ran on a whim and was elected by default. Dan’s first term has started and he is unprepared, unqualified and in way over his head. This season, Dan gets himself in trouble with the Chief of Police, a neighbouring mayor and a dodgy Ethics Commissioner. Meanwhile on the personal front, Dan haplessly navigates his way through his relationship with Claire while attempting to have a not-too-weird friendship with Claire’s ex, Mike. Dan also struggles to find time to have a beer with his old pal Jeff, the new owner of Fern’s Bar and Grill.

Starring alongside the Gemini Award-winning Ewanuick is Mary Ashton (HEARTLAND) who plays Claire, Dan’s ambitious girlfriend, Paul Bates (Mooseport) as Jeff, Dan’s childhood best friend and one-time campaign manager, and Benjamin Ayres (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) as Claire’s responsible, successful and moustached ex-fiancé Mike.

Season 1 of Dan For Mayor premiered to 2 million viewers on March 1, 2010. Along with Hiccups, it was one of the most-watched premieres of any scripted Canadian series last season.

Viewers can catch encore broadcasts of Season 1 on The Comedy Network Fridays at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT and 8:30 p.m. ET/PT and Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. Season 1 is also available on demand at watch.ctv.ca and thecomedynetwork.ca.

Produced by Sad Glasses and QVF Inc. in association with CTV and The Comedy Network, Dan For Mayor is created and executive produced by Mark Farrell (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Paul Mather (Men With Brooms) and Kevin White (Insecurity). Susan Murdoch (The Terrorist Next Door) is Producer. The show is written by Mark Farrell, Paul Mather, Kevin White, Jenn Engels (LESS THAN KIND) and Carolyn Taylor (THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES). The Directors are Ron Murphy (Being Erica), Brian Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond) and David Weaver (Fairfield Road). Michelle Daly is the Director of Content, The Comedy Network and Susanne Boyce is President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc.
